"Mom," Bridget says gently, "You have to tell Nick." "No!" Brooke replies, fear creeping into her voice."No!" Brooke looks over at Sam in panic. "Mom? Nick has a right to know!" Bridget responds seemingly confused by her mother's reluctance. "No!.... Yes.... I mean, of course Nick has the right to know. Are you 100% sure? Sure that he is the father?" Brooke asks, her voice shaking. Sam gets up and goes to stand behind Brooke laying a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It's pretty certain, Brooke. You should have a new test run to confirm since there seems to have been a good deal of hanky panky here. But all indications are that Nick is indeed RJ's father." Sam squeezed her shoulder gently. Brooke is silent for a moment. Bridget is simply staring at her mother unsure of what to say or do. She believes strongly that Nick has a right to know especially since he so wants a child of his own. But, she also believes that it is her mother's place to tell him. "Nick DOES have a right to know," Brooke finally says. "But not now." She looks at Bridget. "He's about to get married, Bridget. I won't interfere or have any part in disrupting that marraige." "But Mom, this could change everything for you!" Bridget replies and then remembers Sam standing behind her mother. He has a grim look on his face but he says nothing. Suddenly Bridget realizes that he too is in love with her Mother and she is stirred by feelings of regret and pity knowing that her mother's heart will always belong to Nick. "No, Bridget. Nothing changes. Nick is with Taylor now and finding happiness. In a few months their marraige will be on solid ground and RJs paternity won't be a factor. Taylor will be secure in her relationship and not threatened by RJ. Nick will have only missed a few months with his son. He may never forgive me for not telling him immediately but I can live with that." Brooke fell silent thinking of the child she was carrying. Two children by the man she loved. She would be content with that and someday...someday she hoped Nick would be able to forgive her. For now, Bridget must also not know of the baby. Not only because of Nick but because her own healing was still an on-going process. She would have to hope that Bridget would forgive her as well. "There is a Doctor I know over on St. Thomas who has the requisite equipment to run the DNA screening. I'll call her and set up an appointment if you'd like Brooke." Sam said quietly. Brooke agreed that this was a good idea. After a bit more convincing, Bridget agreed to stay silent about RJ's paternity until Brooke was ready to tell Nick. Bridget knew that this was all rather difficult for her mother to believe and Brooke needed time to deal with her own emotions on the subject. Bridget also knew that Ridge would be devastated. Although things had gone south between him and Brooke, Bridget knew that he was happy that RJ would always tie him to the woman he had been unable to forget all of his life. Brooke was right to want to wait. When the truth came out there would be some serious fall out. Bridget hoped that all parties would be in a good place emotionally when the time came, especially her mother. She watched Sam watch her mother for a moment and was satisfied that he was sufficiently enamoured with her mother to protect her. She smiled and stood up and hugged her mom. "Show me the beach?" Bridget asked, breaking the tension. "Of course, sweetheart. Let's get your brother and sister and make some sand castles. This man," Brooke said pointing to Sam with a fond smile, "is a professional sand-castle builder!" Bridget laughed. "Can't wait to see his work...."

Back in LA, Nick was in his office slipping into his Tux for his afternoon wedding to Taylor. As he straightened his tie in the mirror, he caught sight of the wedding dress he'd had made up for Brooke. He walked to the dress and fingered the fine, filmy silk, imaging for just a moment what Brooke would look like in the dress. It was the far-away look in his eye, that Jackie caught as she walked through the door. It tugged at her heart...the fact that her son still had such strong feelings for Brooke. Why he insisted on marrying Taylor when he knew Brooke was free was beyond her comprehension. He was an honorable man, she thought to herself. Honorable and stupid. He'd give up on his own dream to make Taylor happy. She should be proud of him for that but she wasn't. She had been left too many times, by too many men for the sake of honor. It had cost her several chances at happiness of her own. Yes, she was thoroughly sick of honor! She cleared her throat and brought Nick out of his reverie. "Mother," he said fondly going over to kiss her. "You look beautiful as always!" he added affectionately. Her heart swelled as she looked him over in his tux. He was so handsome....Perhaps she would forgive him for being stupid afterall, she thought lovingly. "Do I look ok?" Nick asked. "You know you do, darling!" Jackie replied straightening his tie. She looked him in the eye and asked gently, "Nickie, are you sure about this? Becuase if you're not..." Nick stepped away from his mother avoiding her eagle eyes. "I'm sure, Mother. Please, do we have to go over this again?" he asked a bit sharply. "No, no, of course not! It's just that Brooke..." "Mother, " Nick interupted, "No Brooke today. I am about to marry another woman. I thought you liked Taylor!" "Of course I do Nickie. That doesn't mean that I think she is the right woman for you." Seeing Nick's closed expression she sighed and added, "But it IS your life." "It is and I am ready to move on. Shall we move on?....to the church?" He said with a smile. They walked out of Nick's office. At the thresh hold, Nick paused and looked back at the dress, his look unfathomable as he turned and walked out the door.

Aw ... thanks! I bet Bridget spills the beans to Nick! At least the one on the show would! What always bugged me about the show was that Brooke has always had to go through her pregnancies with lots of stress and all on her own. It is only everyone else (McTrampy) who gets to primp, preen, and spend time "resting" and rubbing their pad... while everyone coos, simpers, and pampers.

True ML. And she always gets a bad wrap that she NEEDS a man! Her character is one of the strongest to have ever been written, thanks to the previous B&B talented writers. She's gone it alone for a long time with only glimpses of happiness. Yet, she never stops believing in true love. I guess that's why I am such a Brooke fan. Even when I was upset with her over Deacon, I was still drawn in to that dream of hers of true love. I love that she is strong, confident and vulnerable too. KKL is awsome as Brooke. She may never win an award but her fan base and anti-fan base tells how much emotion she draws from her audience! She ROCKS!

Oh, ICAM! KKL deserves so much credit for the appeal of Brooke Logan, in spite of some of the lemon SL that Brooke has been thrown into. KKL simply infuses Brooke Logan with such vulnerability, charisma, sensuality, spunk, charm, and moxy that you just want her to succeed and be happy ... even when she makes bonehead and impulsive and destructive choices. It doesn't hurt either, that KKL is simply gorgeous. ;D

At the small chapel, Taylor is in a room off the foyer touching up her makeup and adjusting her gown before the wedding. Phoebe knocks on the door and enters. The two hug and Taylor tells her how happy she is to see her. Taylor asks Phoebe if Rick brought her but Phoebe explains that her father, Ridge brought her....and he is here now and wants to see Taylor before the wedding. Taylor hesitates but Phoebe insists that he really wants to wish her luck. Taylor agrees to talk to Ridge and Phoebe leaves the room to get her father. Soon Ridge enters the small room and closes the door, leaving he and Taylor alone. Taylor turns from the mirror and stares at Ridge, noting again how tall and handsome he is. In those moments she could almost forgive Brooke her obbsession with the man that lasted more than 20 years. Almost but not quite. If it hadn't been for Brooke she would still be married to Ridge and part of the Forrester dynasty. She could have forgiven Brooke more easily if she hadn't given it all up in the end. Taylor would never have left Ridge, she thought. She would have let him have his little affairs as long as he kept them secret. Afterall, marraige to her wasn't about sex or even true love but about security and dynasties. "Taylor, you look beautiful!" Ridge state huskily. Oh how she loved it when he used that voice with her! "Thank you Ridge. But what are you doing here? I am about to get married," Taylor replied. Ridge looks at her and turns away and begins pacing. "I had to come...to see you. I haven't been able to stop thinking about you these past few weeks. I.....I go to bed at night and lie awake... thinking of you with Nick, hating the very thought of it. I try to get you out of my mind...think about something else but I only get pictures of you...of us...how we were...how we used to be." He turns back to her and takes her by the shoulders. "I made a mistake, Taylor...leaving you for Brooke. I was too confused.....too shell shocked even by your return, to understand what I wanted...what I needed. I am asking you... here and now, not to marry Nick. To give us a chance to see if we really do belong together... forever. I think it's what I want... I KNOW it's what I need to find out. Please Taylor. Please don't marry Nick!" Ridge finished pleadingly. Taylor stares at Ridge for several moments in silence. She turns away and asks him to leave as the wedding is about to start. Ridge makes one last heartfelt plea before leaving the room. Taylor walks to the mirror and adjusts her veil. She turns to the door and enters the foyer looking for Phoebe to lead the procession down the aisle. She nods to Phoebe, sho takes her place as the music begins. She doesn't see Ridge standing at the back of the chapel as she walks up the aisle her eyes on Nick standing at the alter.....

Nick stood at the front of the chapel watching Taylor walk down the aisle as the music played the wedding march. She is beautiful, Nick thought to himself, beautiful, cool, composed. He tried to imagine her in a tee shirt with Pirate Booty written across the back but could quite get the image...no...nor could he get the last look Brooke had thrown him on St John out of his mind. Taylor walked slowly up the aisle thinking how handsome Nick was. Handsome yes, unruly, unsophisticated....unlike another man who she couldn't seem to forget. She reached Nick and they joined hands smiling at one another as the music stopped. The Minister cleared his throat and began the service. After an opening prayer, he looked at the small audience before him. The groom's mother, the bride's duaghter and some tall man trying to stay hidden at the back of the chapel. He turned to Nick and Taylor as he asked everyone in the chapel if there was a reason these two should not be joined as man and wife. There was a moment of silence before Nick and Taylor both spoke at once saying one anothers name. "Nick," "Taylor," ... They smiled at one another and Nick squeezed Taylor's hands. "Ladies first," he said softly. Taylor hestitated for a moment and then began. "Nick, you know I care for you a great deal. I do love you. But... but... I can't marry you! I mean...I mean I can't marry you now. I thought I was ready to move on with you but I find myself having reservations. I... I think we are rushing this. I'm sorry. I'm just not ready. I want....I need to be sure, " Taylor said with tears in her voice. "I'm sorry," she finished on a whisper. Nick squeezed her hands again and lifted them to his lips. He smiled gently at Taylor. "Don't apologize. Actually, I was going to say almost the exact same thing. Maybe we do belong together... and maybe we don't. Time will tell. But you are right. Neither of us is thinking clearly enough to be sure. We came together out of hurt and while it may have helped us heal, it isn't something to on which to build a marraige. I don't want to lose you but I am not ready for this," Nick said softly and kissed her hands again. Taylor laughed as a tear escaped and fell down her cheek. She stepped back and then leaned in to hug Nick. They stood laughing and hugging and neither saw Ridge slip out of the back of the chapel, relieved that he might still have a chance to win Taylor back. Neither saw Jackine smile in relief, her mind conjuring a picture of Brooke in the wedding dress that hung in Nick's office. Only Phoebe looked rather bewildered. Nick turned to his mother and Phoebe and told them that they might as well all adjourn to Chucks. They had paid for a party so they might as well all enjoy it.
Back on St. John, Brooke stood out on her veranda enjoying the cool night and the night stars. Bridget walked out to join her at the rail and the two looked out over the ocean for a few minutes in silence. "I suppose Nick must be married by now," Brooke said sadly. "It was supposed to be today, Mom." Bridget replied quietly. "He should be married." Again silence. "Are you all packed, Honey?" Brooke asked changing the subject. "Yes, Mom. I wish you'd come home with me," Bridget said. "I'm not ready Sweetheart. Besides, I like it here and so do the kids. If Nick accepts my proposal, then I plan to make this my home for the near future." Brooke responded. "But Sam is leaving himself in a week. You'll be here alone Mom." "Sam is not the reason I am staying Bridget. And I'm not alone. I have RJ, Hope and Katherine. Besides, Sam promises to visit often. It's not that far from NY." Brooke replied smiling at the thought of Sam. "I'll be home for Christmas, Bridget." Brooke said, thinking that the baby would be born by then. "You promise?" Bridget asked hopefully. "I promise," Brooke responded and hugged her daughter. Over Bridget shoulder she caught sight of a shooting star... quickly she made a wish. Foolsih she thought to herself, but she repeated the wish all the same....

Summer came and was on the ebb as Nick stood in his office going through the latest batch of designs Brooke had sent for FC's Winter Collection. They were brilliant, he thought as he looked through them. He now knew that Ridge had borrowed much of his own designs from Brooke. There was no mistaking her style. With Brooke designing for FC, the business had prospered while FO still struggled to find a niche. This disturbed Nick only because he knew Brooke was heavily invested in FO. She had to be losing money right and left and yet she chose to help him, not Forrester. How that must have rankled Forrester! When he had gotten Brooke's proposal months earlier he had signed it immediately and sent off a bonus check for her original work which she had kept secret. He had initially been disappointed that Brooke had not returned to LA and he had seized on the chance to bind her to him if by nothing more than signing her FC proposal. At the time he had thought that it was better than nothing. He had been tempted to deliver the signed contract in person but a chance meeting with Bridget had convinced him that it wasn't a good idea. Bridget had explained that her mother was moving on with her life as Nick had moved on with his own. Trouble was, Nick hadn't really moved on with his life. He and Taylor still saw one another...more out of habit than anything else. He knew Taylor had met with Ridge on several occasions and that she was torn by her feelings for Forrester, but afraid to act on them. Heaven knows, he wasn't going to encourage her to pursue his half brother. Although he had come to realize that he didn't love Taylor, he wouldn't encourage her to pursue that relationship. And, although he was glad they hadn't gone through with the marriage, he did still care what happened to her.
Nick turned over another design and thought again about the woman who had sent them, wondering what she was doing at that moment....
At that moment, Brooke was on her veranda tying down furniture in the growing breeze. She looked up at the darkening skies and went back inside the villa and turned on the TV. The tropical storm was still a considerable distance from the Virgin Islands but the winds were already picking up. The weatherman was still preaching the uncertainty of not only the course of the storm but its potential strength. As it was, it was quickly nearing hurricane strength but thus far, the path was predicted to go east to the islands. Hurricane season, Brooke thought with a sigh of resignation. How had she forgotten? She had sent Katherine off on vacation two days ago before the storm had really formed. She knew she had to watch the weather like a hawk now, to leave herself enough time to evacuate if the need should arise. She wasn't panicked. No one on the Island seemed to be so she assumed that there was no real need to worry yet. She put her hand to her back to ease the ache. 6 months pregnant and feeling it she thought. She glanced at RJ and Hope busily coloring at the table. They were unaffected by all the talk of hurricanes on the news. She stood up as she heard a small table overturn outside. She rubbed her belly as she went back outside to secure the table.
Also at that moment, Sam was in LA on a special heart case. He was in the middle of a complicated heart surgery that had already gone on for 8 hours. As he stepped away from the table to have his brow wiped, he took a moment to straighted his back and work out the kinks the long surgery had put there. His thoughts briefly flashed to Brooke on St John and the impending hurricane. Oh they were still calling it a tropical storm on most stations but one of the more progressive weather forcasters had already predicted that it would be at least a category 3 or 4 hurricane and would most likely pass directly over the US Virgin Islands. His hope that Brooke was already evacuting was his last thought as he turned back to the surgery at hand. He had learned long ago to clear his mind of nothing but surgery when he was in the operating room. He owed this to his patients. He couldn't however, remove the knot of worry that had formed in his stomach.....
