Hi all. I just got back from a two week vacation in Maine. You'd think I would have had a ton of time to write but I had no computer connectivity that far up north so I decided to read instead! I'll try to get back to the story today! Thanks for the encouragement!!

Sam smiled as he approached the two people with their noses practically pressed against the window of the Neo-Natal intensive Care Unit. He turned as he pulled up alongside and peered through the window himself. Through the window he saw Nick, donned in hospital gown, hat and slippers, gently stroking his tiny daughters cheek. Sam understood the scene well. Baby Logan, not yet recognized as a Marone, lay in a clear cart, intubated with oxygen and connected to numerous sensors. Sam’s quick eye took in the heart monitor, the O2 monitor and the body heat sensor. So many things connected to such a tiny body often overwhelmed people but Nick seemed unfazed and fascinated by the tiny human being. Sam knew that most of the sensors were precautionary, and that although the baby was several weeks premature and had difficulty breathing upon birth, that she was strong and healthy and simply needed to “ripen” a bit more. He gently explained the monitors and devices to Jackie and Max as they watched Nick and the NICU nurses fawn over the baby. The NICU itself was having a rather quiet night and the nurses loved lavishing their attention on the beautiful little Logan baby and her very handsome father.
The three waved to Nick when he caught sight of them through the window. He had a word with the nurses, stroked his daughters cheek one more time before heading to the exit to join the group stationed by the window. Nick came out a side door and approached the group a little breathlessly and with a huge grin on his face.
“She’s beautiful!” he said with a glance through the window.
“She’s gorgeous, Nicky!” Jackie confirmed hugging her son.
“Well done!” Said Sam shaking Nick’s hand.
“Obviously gets her looks from her mother,” Max said, pulling his best friend into a tight hug.
“Nick, Brooke is out of surgery,” Sam said with a small smile. “She’s still in recovery but we expect her to be moved to a private room within an hour. She’ll be able to have a visitor or two in about two hours….time enough for you to clean up and grab a bite to eat,” Sam added.
“Who needs food!” Nick proclaimed gallantly. “I can live on the love of my girls! But… I suppose…. I could use a shower!” he stated solemnly and then broke out in laughter when the other three vehemently confirmed this fact.

After the detectives left, Taylor watched Ridge yawn and then apologize.
“Don’t know why I am so tired,” he said, turning to climb the stairs and intending to crawl back in bed.
Taylor was revved by her successful alibi. While she was dying to call the hospital and check on what she was sure would be Brooke’s untimely demise, she recognized that this was simply too dangerous. It could wait until tomorrow, she thought strategically.
But she had so much energy… what to do with it? She eyed Ridge slowly trudging up the stairs. Although a bit skinny for her tastes, she knew he knew how to push her buttons and she his. Yes. He was as good as any to burn off some extra energy. She locked the door and followed Ridge up the stairs. Oh yes… this was going to be a night he would remember for a very, VERY, long time…..

Thank you NC!! I have been (im)patiently (hee hee) waiting another installment of your wonderful story!! Hope you had a great vacation but I am so glad you are back to writing. I loved that statement Nick made, "Who needs food? I can live off the love of my girls!" That was classic Nick. Thank you so much for giving us the real Nick back if even a fantasy. Too bad Bell doesn't have the writing skills that you and the others on this site have.
Oh and Taylor, what a complete bit*h!!?? Thanks for showing the "real" Taylor.

Brooke stirred and struggled to open her eyes through a haze of pain. She moaned softly as her movements brought a searing pain to her shoulder. She felt a hand soothe her brow and a hushed “shhhhhhhhhhhh,” as someone tried to settle and calm her. She opened her eyes and let them adjust to the low lighting of night in a hospital ward. She listened and focused her eyes on her surroundings, heard voices and footsteps in the hall. A hand soothed her brow again and she slowly turned her head, careful not to jostle her body. Her eyes met the smiling eyes of Dominic Payne Marone and, for a moment, she forgot where she was and what had happened. In that moment there was only them—a man who loved a woman irrevocably and a woman who reciprocated those feelings completely. Time stood still in the small room as Nick raised the hand of her good arm and kissed it.
“Hi there,” he said softly, still smiling. “Welcome back.”
“Hi yourself,” Brooke said in a creaky voice. Nick, who was sitting as close to the bedside as possible, grabbed her water and held the straw to her lips. Brooke took a long draw on the water and, settling back, closed her eyes for a moment.
“I feel so light,” she began softly. “So airy.” She opened her eyes quickly and in a panic as she realized she was much, much smaller than she had been just that morning.
Nick saw the panic and immediately began to explain. “Shhhhhhhh,” he began, again brushing her forehead with a gentle hand. “We have a beautiful baby girl in the nursery,” he finished with a stupid grin.
“She’s… she’s….ok? She was early…”
“Early but strong like her mother,” Nick added gently. “She’s improving by the hour. “
“Thank heavens!” Brooke said in relief as she ran her good hand over her now flat stomach. “She seems ok, then?”
“Gorgeous…just like her Mama!” Nick exclaimed, raising her hand again to his lips.
Brooke smiled at Nick and then sobered. “What happened, Nick?” she asked quietly. “I really don’t remember anything but the storm.”
“Some one shot you Brooke. Thank God Max and I arrived at your house when we did. Whoever shot you had already made a get away. “ He paused and then probed, “Are you sure you don’t remember?”
Brooke thought for a moment and then replied. “Nothing. It’s a big blank. The kids?” Brooke asked again overcome with worry.
“Katherine has Hope and DJ and Bridget and Rick are on their way home from their conventions. Jackie offered to watch the kids until you are fully recovered,” Nick added with a smile.
Brooke sighed and closed her eyes wearily. “Sleep now, my love,” Nick said as he softly kissed her lips. “Nothing will hurt you now.”

Thank you once again NC!! I love this story!! But dang Brooke is lucky to have a flat stomach right after giving birth, it took me a few days for mine to go back to normal.
And I loved this line, "Sleep now my love, nothing will hurt you now." That was classic Nick!!
