Promise I'll have an update this weekend! I waited so long to write I wasn't sure people were still interested but then I realized I needed to finish this for me too. Stay tuned! Just not enuf hours in the day! xo to you all Are you kidding me? You didn't think we were INTERESTED?? Your story is 10,000 times better than anything Bell has written in years. Oh I wish he had the brains to realize what he is doing to his show and then visit our board and read what you, Miss Jr. and some of the others fan fics writers have written, then realize there are more talented people out here that could actually pull his show out of the gutter and hire a couple of you!! Thank you so much for this, I know you have been busy but remember your fans N.C.

The taxi driver smiled as he listened to the two men hassle one another in the back seat. It was obvious that the two had a long history and a real fondness for one another. The men fell silent as lightening flashed and thunder crashed around them. It was a hell of a storm, the driver thought. He looked at the house in front of them.
"Are you sure the little lady is home?" the cabby asked noting the darkness in the windows.
Nick and Max stopped their joking and leaned over the seats to glance out the front window. "I just spoke with her a half an hour ago," Nick replied. "Power must be out."
"No," said the cabby, "the street lights are still on."
Nick and Max looked at one another uneasily. "Looks like we're getting wet," Max said as a feeling of unease coming over him.
"Yep," Nick replied handing cash to the cabby. "Please wait and make sure we get in the house," Nick added, the same unease making his voice gruff. He looked back at Max as thunder again pealed loudly over their heads. "On three..."
The men dashed to the front door, immediately getting soaked by the pouring rain. Nick pounded on the door and hit the bell several times before pulling out the key Brooke had given him in case of an emergency with the children. The men burst into the darkened room. The feeling of unease prevailed as Nick called out for Brooke and began advancing into the room. It was like watching an old silent movie, Max thought, as the lightening kept illuminating the room in an erie, flickering light. A particularly long and bright lightening strike had both men spotting Brooke on the floor. Nick reached Brooke's side as Max searched for the light switch. Max found the switch and flooded the room with light. He ran to Nick's side as he knelt next to the unconscious woman. Nick was overcome by panic when he noted the blood pooling under Brooke's still body. He reached for her wrist and thenkfully found her pulse. "She's alive," Nick said, emotion shaking his voice. Max quickly took in situation and ran to the kitchen. They had to stop the blood loss. Grabbing a clean dish towel, he folded it into a compress and rushed back into the living room. He placed the towel on the wound area and placed Nick's hand over the compress.
"Press...hard!" Max told Nick. He ran to the phone, dailled 911 and, as calmly as possible, explained to the operator that they had a very pregnant unconscious woman with a serious bullet wound. Max stayed on the phone giving the operator the necessary information while never taking his eyes off of Nick or Brooke. He only hung up the phone when he heard the sirens signalling the ambulance's arrival. As he moved to the door he thought he saw something move in the shadows outside. There was no time to check it out now, he thought as he opened the door to the EMT's. Brooke and the baby were all that mattered now....
Outside Taylor watched the scene unfold in the living room. Her fingers twitched on the small revolver she held in her pocket. As Max flooded the room with light she moved further back into the shadows but she could still watch the frantic movements of the men trying to save Brooke's life. She snorted quietly in disdain for the two men fussing over the woman and for her own poor aim. She had hoped to kill Brooke and her little brat immediately but this might actually be better. Her fingers twitched again. She longed to finish the job she thought, and take out both Nick and Max right now. But this was better. She'd watch Nick suffer over Brooke's prolonged slide into death and then she'd finish it off. Yes, this was MUCH better, she thought as she noted the panic on Nick's face with glee. She looked at Max and noted his own strained expression. If she didn't know better, she'd swear he was smitten with HER as well. Yes... two birds with one stone. nice and slow. Taylor hard the sirens and she silently slide away from the house. She needed to get out of there and firm up her alibi. She took one last glance back and smiled. For the first time in a long time she felt happy. She couldn't wait to feel complete and total joy!

Nick ran down the hospital corridor along side the gurney holding Brooke. At the door to Triage Nick was halted by a woman who resembled an old battle ax.
“I’m sorry, sir, but you can’t come in here.”
Nick looked at the woman in frustration ready to fight. “You don’t understand! That my…my…” Nick struggled for words… “my heart in there! And she’s carrying my baby!” he exclaimed, his voice breaking with emotion.
The battle ax looked at Nick and softened her tone in sympathy. “I understand…I do! And I promise to come out and tell you what’s going on as soon as I can.”
Nick looked at the stocky woman. Her face was kind, her expression filled with compassion. Still he balked at leaving Brooke’s side.
“You’re keeping me from helping,” the nurse said gently.
Nick looked at again and stepped to the side. As the nurse walked into the room she turned back. “Have faith, young man. And say your prayers. I’ll be out soon with some news,” she finished gently.
Nick turned away to find the waiting room. And to say his prayers. He wondered if he remembered any of them….

Max found Nick in the waiting room 20 minutes later. He’d charged into the room breathless and filled with fear himself but when he saw his friend staring sightlessly out the window he slowed his movement and tempered his own fear. Nick needed him now. No matter what the outcome, Nick needed him. He walked to his friend and laid a comforting hand on Nick’s shoulder.
“Any news?” Max asked, his own voice husky with emotion.
“None,” Nick replied tersely.
There was commotion over by the door as Jackie charged into the room with Sam.
“I came as soon as I could!” she told Nick breathlessly. “Nicky...”
Nick turned to his mother with tortured eyes. “She was shot, Mom. SHOT! Who does that to a pregnant woman?”
Sam looked at Max and saw all he needed to see. Neither man knew Brooke’s status and both were tortured. Max had stayed at Brooke’s place long enough to explain the situation to the police. He’d sent Nick with Brooke in the ambulance and then called Jackie and Brooke’s grown children. Sam turned from the group and approached the desk. He’d been working at the hospital for almost two months now and the staff recognized him. He slipped into Triage with his own heavy heart. Even though Jackie had secured a place in his affections, he still had deep feelings for Brooke. He wasn’t sure any of them were prepared for a world without her light…her love. He climbed the steps to the observation room and watched the scene unfold below….

Thirty minutes later Sam walked back into the Emergency waiting room. His doctor’s eye couldn’t help but notice the large number of people in varying stages of desperation and grief. Busy day in Emergency, he thought to himself. He spotted Nick standing in front of a window staring vacantly at the receding storm. Max stood close by leaning on the wall, arms crossed. Sam noted how Max watched everyone surreptitiously, nothing got past his eagle eye. It was almost as if he were standing guard over Nick, protecting him. He saw Jackie pacing nervously while talking quietly on her cell phone, no doubt keeping Bridget or Rick informed of happenings. It was unfortunate that both were out of town at separate conferences. Max saw him first as he crossed the floor and he pushed away from the wall. Nick, sensing Max’s movement turned as Sam reached them. Jackie quickly said her goodbyes and joined the three men.
“They’ve stabilized her and stopped the bleeding,” Sam told them solemnly. “The obstetrics team is on its way down. They are going to do an emergency C-section before trying to remove the bullet.”
Nick stared at Sam fear still gripping his throat, unable to ask what needed to be asked.
Max stepped forward. “She lost a lot of blood, Sam. We know that, Nick and I saw that at the house. Is she strong enough to survive a c-section?” Max asked trying to keep his own desperation from his voice. Jackie moved to Nick’s side and gripped his hand in support.
“The baby complicates things, Max. But Brooke is a strong woman, you all know that. She made it through a hurricane,” Sam reminded them gently. “She did lose a lot of blood and she’s going to lose more. But the sooner they deliver the baby, the sooner they can get the bullet out, means the sooner she can start to recover.” Sam saw the OB team move into the room where Brooke still lay unconscious. Someone close to the group began to cry and moan in despair. This was no place to keep a positive attitude, Sam thought.
“I’ll have someone bring you to my office to wait. It’s just down the hall and much quieter.” He looked at his watch. “I’d say in about 30 minutes you’re going to be a father, old man,” he said trying to smile at Nick in encouragement.
Max felt fear bloom afresh in himself and in Nick. Jackie reached out and touched Sam’s arm as he turned to walk back to the emergency room. “We’ll be waiting for the good news,” she said softly with a smile for the man she had come to love. Sam nodded his head and left them.

Taylor let herself into Ridges house, closing the door on the storm that continued to rage outside. She paused and smiled happily when silence greeted her. She crept quietly up the stairs and slipped into the bedroom where Ridge was fast asleep. Yes, she thought, staring at the sleeping man. The drug she’d slipped into his afternoon martini had worked perfectly. She’d executed her plan perfectly so far. The lunch and offer of sex she’d used to entice her alibi home in the middle of the day had worked like a charm. After lunch and a laced martini, she’d enticed Ridge into bed. He’d fallen asleep while she had been in the process of seducing him. At least he’d had a smile on his face when he’d dropped into LaLa land she thought, stepping into the bathroom. And if the drug worked as advertised, he’d have very pleasant memories of the sex they hadn’t actually had. She removed her wet clothes and stuffed them behind some boxes in the linen closet. She’d left another set behind on her last visit and would retrieve these at a later date. She slipped into the hot shower and luxuriated in its warmth. While the storm had perfectly set the stage for the early evening’s events, it had left a little to be desired in the form of comfort. She pictured again Brooke lying helpless and dying on the floor of her own house. Yes. That was sweet! Taylor quickly finished her shower and towel dried her hair. She slipped into Ridge’s terry cloth robe that hung on the back of the bathroom door. Satisfied that she looked good, she returned to the bedroom and slipped between the sheets with Ridge. She ran her hands across his chest and felt him stir. Leaning over him, she trailed little kisses along his cheek and giggled.
“God!” she said. “That was incredible!”
Ridge smiled, opening his eyes groggily. “It was that good, eh?”
“Oh yesssssss,” Taylor purred snuggling against him.
“Guess I passed out afterwards, huh?” he asked trying to throw off the fog that seemed to hang around his head. He had a vague recollection of having sex with Taylor. It must have been quite a romp for him to have passed out afterwards.
Taylor giggled again for effect. “I can understand why. You were drained.” She laughed at her double entendre.
Both Taylor and Ridge started at the sound of the door bell. Taylor climbed out of bed even as Ridge reached out for her. “Leave it,” he said, ready to have her again.
“It could be important,” she said. “I’ll get rid of them quickly,” she added as she walked out the door. Ridge grunted in annoyance and grabbing his brocade robe, slipped it on and followed her from the room.
He paused at the top of the stairs as he watch Taylor adjust her robe opening to reveal a significant amount of cleavage before opening the door. Hussy! He thought with a smile.
Taylor opened the door and smiled at the three detectives standing on the porch. Yes, she thought. This really was playing out perfectly!

Thanks, NC, you ROCK! I have to comment on Ridge and Taylor. Boy, is Taylor a piece of work or what? Drugging Ridge and "seducing" him as a way to cover her butt. Talk about having all one's bases covered, but somehow I doubt if anyone has to seduce Ridge, screwing comes as naturally as breathing to that idiot. Poor dumb Ridge-not! I am appalled that Taylor would stoop so low, as no matter what her faults are, IMO, she DID love Ridge. And now the doofus is being played. What a fool! I can just see him, smirking and loving himself as he sits with his butt caught in Taylor's web. However, I had to smirk at the idea of Taylor playing Ridge like a fiddle. First she screws him with the intent of getting pregnant, thus tying Nick to her side, now she dopes him up with the intent of having him as her alibi. Notice that these two vile stunts have nothing to do with Ridge, but plenty to do with her wanting to beat Brooke. As despicable as I find Taylor's two stunts, I can't say I feel sorry for Ridge.

It was closer to an hour and 15 minutes when Sam stepped into his office to face the two men so obviously in love with the woman whose life hung in the balance. Jackie jumped up from the leather divan that graced one wall of the room. As thirty minutes had dragged on to an hour, the three had been begun to lose hope, although no one had voiced their fears aloud. Sam smiled broadly at Jackie.
“Well, Grandma, Daddy…” he added looking at Nick, “you have a little girl down in the NIC-U waiting to meet you.”
“Brooke?” Nick managed in a croak.
Sam sobered, his smile fading somewhat. “She’s still stable, Nick. They are giving her a transfusion before removing the bullet. But she came through the C-section with flying colors considering the circumstances. Miraculously, the bullet missed her lung and should come out with minimal trouble. The blood loss is problematic but it’s under control now. My professional opinion is that she’s going to make it, Nick. She’s going to make it!”
Nick’s eyes swam for a moment and he turned and sat on the divan, dropping his head in his hands to gather strength and control. After a moment he lifted his head and smiled at Sam.
“Just how little is little?”

Taylor smiled lustily at the 3 detectives standing in Ridge’s doorway. The junior-most detective smiled back eagerly struggling to keep his eyes trained on her face. Seeing the track of his gaze, Taylor tightened her robe, accentuating further a generous display of curves and cleavage. The older two detectives seemed unfazed by her assets, something Taylor found hard to believe. However, she knew she’d catch them ogling when they thought she wasn’t looking. She was sure of it!
“What can I do you, gentlemen?” she purred sexily.
The eldest detective stepped into the house and looked around quickly. “Are you Taylor Hayes Forrester?” he asked briskly.
“In the flesh,” Taylor replied glancing down to check her own cleavage.
Unimpressed the detective asked, “Just where were you earlier this evening, Ms. Forrester?” He’d met her kind on numerous occasions…beautiful woman on the outside, cold on the inside. She might blind some men with her considerable bosom but he was trained to see past the superficial. And what he saw reflected in her eyes was cold and hard.
“Why, detective, do you need to know where I have been? I should think it’d be obvious,” she replied, her arm sweeping toward the top of the stair as Ridge stepped out of the shadows and onto the landing.
“What the hell’s going on here,” Ridge asked, angry at both the intrusion and the ogling young lieutenant.
“Mr. Forrester, I presume?” asked the detective. Ridge nodded in affirmation. “Mr. Forrester, someone shot Ms. Brooke Logan this afternoon.”
Ridge hurried down the steps. “Brooke’s been shot?” he asked, true horror reflected in his voice.
Taylor’s eyes narrowed at Ridge’s obvious concern. For a moment she was awash with hatred for the woman who continued to hold men for years after the love had gone cold. She quickly covered her emotions but not before the observant detective had caught the brief but total flash of hate.
“Is she…” Ridge stopped.
“Dead?” finished the detective, watching Taylor closely. “No, but she’s in critical condition.”
“God!” cried Ridge. “Who?”
“We don’t know, sir. That’s why we’re here following up leads.” Turning to Taylor he asked, “Ms. Forrester, I understand that you and Ms. Logan have quite a past. And that you have no love for one another. In fact…”
“Detective,” Taylor interrupted sharply. “My relationship with Brooke Logan has nothing to do with it. As you can see, I have been here with my ex-husband all afternoon. If you’d like a play by play, I’d be happy…”
“That won’t be necessary, Ms. Forrester. Can you verify Ms. Forrester’s whereabouts this after noon, Mr. Forrester?”
Ridge looked confused for a moment. She had been with him all afternoon, right? Taylor wouldn’t shoot Brooke, right? Ridge’s mind raced through the afternoon’s events. She must have been with him. He certainly wasn’t going to tell the detective that he’d engaged in sexual activity that he could no longer remember!
The detective saw the doubt reflected in Ridge’s face but remained silent. He also noted that Taylor Hayes Forrester didn’t move a muscle as she waited for the man’s response. “I can vouch for Ms. Forrester, detective. We were…otherwise engaged.”
The detective turned to leave and the other two detectives followed. The young lieutenant managed to drag his eyes away from Taylor’s cleavage long enough to remember his job. “Don’t leave town Ms. Forrester. Don’t leave town.”
Taylor smiled at the lieutenant now sure of herself and her alibi. “Not on your life, Detective.” Her suggestive wink at the young detective had him blushing as they left the couple.

NC I have been sitting here the reading this and I am so blown away by the quality of the writing. I am desperately waiting for the next installment. I would rather sit and read this than watch what they are currently giving us. Can I just say, I absolutely adore Sam and am hoping that he and Jackie get together. Can we find someone for Max ? How about Donna? Am I right in assuming that this was before the Thorne/Donna situation ? Anyways all I can say is MORE MORE MORE ! If you ever decide to get published, I'll be buying your book.
