MissJr I am truly humbled by your words. Thank You. I struggled through the last two installments. I knew what I wanted to come across, but I wasn't sure if I actually accomplished my objective. It appears I did.

Author's note:
Since I have reworked Lt. Baker to my liking. I've decided to recast him in my mind. Everyone can use their own imagination, but think Det. Jones from NYPD Blue.
Lt. Baker was in the evidence room, signing out the photos that were taken from Carmine’s house. He wanted to get a good look at them. The officer on duty handed the Lt. a clipboard. He initialed it and handed it back, and the officer handed him the box containing photos. Lt. Baker walked down the hall; and up a flight of stairs down another hall into his office. He placed the box on his desk, donned a pair of gloves, and cut the seal on the box. He lifted the top off. There were several pictures of Brooke and Carmine, and some with just Brooke. There was four of his family. One of the entire family, one with just him and his parents, the third with a person that appeared to be a brother, and one of his parents at dinner. Lt. Baker closely examined the last photo; there was a person in the background, a person who looked familiar. He had seen the face before, it was Massimo Marone.
Lt. Baker looked at the picture again, he was sure of it that was the infamous Massimo Marone. He put the picture down, and sat in his chair. He picked up the phone and called one of his investigators. He instructed her to pull as much background as she could find concerning the current finances of both Forrester Creations, and Originals. Including the State Department to check visa activity for all the Forrester’s, Marone’s, and Brooke Logan for the last 6 months. When he finished his call, he sat back put his feet back in his chair and thought about what might have been in the vault. I bet Brooke Logan might be able to answer that question, but not today, he thought. He had to wait until the DNA and fingerprint reports to come in, as well as the ballistics on the cartridge and slug. I’ll wait and speak to her tomorrow, he told himself. He picked up the phone, called down to dispatch and ascertained that the unmarked car was at Ms. Logan’s residence, and giving instructions that they were to have a car there until further notice. He hung up, and got up placed the photos back into the box. Pulled a new seal out of his desk, and sealed the box. He initialed it, and walked the box back down to the evidence room, and left the station for the evening. He had an early morning planned.
Rick pulled into the driveway of his mother’s house. Brooke noted that there was a car just to the right of the entrance. That must be the police, Brooke thought. She was concerned and comforted at the same time. She wasn’t exactly sure what to make of it. Lt. Baker had said, they weren’t sure if it was suicide or murder, but they were pursuing it as a murder. Who would’ve wanted to murder Carmine.
Rick stopped the car, and got out. Brooke opened her own door, and got out also. Her legs wobbled for a moment, but Rick was there and supported his mother. Gaining her footing, she stood by herself, and walked up to the door, with Rick close behind her, her hand trembled as she tried to get the key into the lock. Rick gently took the key from her, and placed it in the lock and turned. The door opened and Brooke walked into the house. On the large round table in the foyer, someone had placed a single white rose. Tears started to well up in her eyes again, and she quickly wiped them away. She walked over picked up the rose, and inhaled deeply. She started to cry.
“What is it mom?” He said as he walked to her side.
“Only one person ever brought me white roses.”
“Carmine,” they said at the same time.

Excellent installment! Quick question. Are you intimately involved with police or forensic work? I'm only asking because I'm very impressed with your knowledge of how these things work. The details you give, including the way Ridge's DNA was collected without his knowledge, are great! That was another question I had. Could Ridge's lawyer later have the DNA evidence tossed out because it was technically gathered without his knowledge or consent? I also love how the investigation is going, and your Lt. Baker is very competent! He's very thorough and not easily fooled. I feel really badly for Brooke! Now about that white rose. Is this something that is delivered to Brooke on a daily basis or was that rose placed in the vase after Carmine's death to send her a message or to gaslight her? I'm intrigued with Massimo's involvement in Carmine's demise. Does he have ties to Carmine's family in Italy or is there something else going on? As you can see, I have a LOT of questions!

(DNA testing wasn't used then) Because of one position I had, I gained knowledge of procedural protocols for a lab. I'm also a CSI JUNKIE(the orginal, and NCIS), and I read alot of classic murder mysteries. I have a well read copy of the works of A. Conan Doyle. Cliche I know, but I love Sherlock Holmes Carmine would send Brooke roses, not necessarily everyday. He was known to surprise her with them at work. When he gave them to her personally, it was always a single one, and always white. It doesn't necessarily mean that Carmine sent that particular rose. (AND that's all I'm giving away on the rose ) I plead the 5th!

Stephanie was driving Ridge back to his house. Ridge was staying at his and Taylor’s old place. Ridge was quiet, while Stephanie ranted away.
“We really didn’t need to deal with this right now,” she said. “Things are bad enough with the company as it is, and now we have to deal with the fallout of your arrest. I’m not saying Rick didn’t deserve what he got, but son, you really have to get Brooke out of your system. She certainly has.”
Ridge continued to remain silent, and looked out the window, deliberately ignoring his mother. He knew that he could win back Brooke, if only she would give him a chance. He really wished his mother had stayed home this morning. He was positive Brooke wouldn’t have called the police if she hadn’t antagonized her. He was thankful that mother had stayed with him, and posted the bail, but she would never understand how he felt about Brooke. He was not particularly happy with Brooke at this point, but he could understand why she was so shaken, and unstable. He was almost ashamed that he let his mother talk him into backing out of watching RJ. She had called him late the night before, and insisted that he had to go to Paris. She said it was urgent that he leave by noon the next day. Ridge had learned over the years, when his mother was in that kind of state, to just to give in, and let her have her way. He had done it many times before. She was well on her way to working herself into a Class A hissy fit, and as she was getting on in years, he was genuinely concerned for her health.
“Ridge I am speaking too you,” Stephanie finally raised her voice. She was tired of being ignored.
“Yes, mother,” he replied.
“Are you sure you want to stay at the house by yourself tonight? You could come stay with me and dad.”
“I don’t want to see dad.”
“Eric does love you Ridge.”
“You couldn’t tell by what he did today.”
“Well, you know how he is about Rick and Bridget,” Stephanie continued.
“I don’t care, he should have just kept quiet.”
“I’ll never understand the hold Brooke has over men,” Stephanie muttered.
Ridge rolled his eyes, “So tell me what is going to happen now that I can’t go to Paris. What was so damn important that I had to drop everything and leave.”
Stephanie took a moment to answer, “It really doesn’t matter now. You can’t go anywhere. I’ll have someone else handle it.”
“But last night you said only I could handle it.”
“Ridge just drop it okay, you need to concentrate on getting RJ back. I can’t believe a judge would prevent you from seeing your own son.” Stephanie deliberately steered the conversation into an area that she knew Ridge would not resist pouncing on. She was still seething from CPS allowing Brooke to have the children back after such a short time with Ridge. Brooke had managed to get Dorothy removed from the case, due to impartiality, and the subsequent social worker took a more practical approach to the case. If it was one thing Stephanie Forrester knew how to do well, it was her ability to hold a grudge. Brooke had embarrassed her dear friend, and had gained the upper hand with the children. Shortly after, Brooke had found this Carmine fellow, and Nick’s Company, she refused to call it Forrester Creations, had started to become very profitable at the expense of Forrester Originals. Nick had already locked them out of most of the markets, and with only their own boutiques to move stock, they were drowning in debt and inventory. They had slashed prices on all lines, but their clientele were infatuated with Forrester Creations new head designer. They were forced again to sell the remaining stock on the Home Shopping Network, the ultimate humiliation in Stephanie’s eyes. She swore revenge then, and now it appeared that her wish had come true. She would do anything to protect her family, and their legacy. If she could finally wipe Brooke from her life, everything would be just fine.

Horsey, I was going to ask if you were a CSI junkie! I'm loving how I can envision your scenes so much more realisticly than the slapdash nonsense they pull together for crime scenes on B&B. (I realize it's not their fortay but.. the plots would be so much better with a little more realism) The plot really thickens with Massimo's involvement. Someone is seriously screwing with Brooke sending her the white rose. To me it sounds like something Mass would do, only because it reminds of me of maffia type symbolism. I Love it!

Bridget and CJ arrived at the beach house with RJ and Hope. The kids were somber, and Bridget was sitting between the two in the back seat, with a arm around each one. RJ had fallen asleep, and Hope had snuggled up against Bridget, and was staring off in space. They pulled in the driveway, and came to a stop. Bridget gently nudged Hope, while CJ got out, opened the backdoor, and picked RJ up to take him in the house. Clark opened the door to the house, and the four walked in. Clark shut the door.
“I’ve got the guest room all set up for Hope, and RJ can bunk in my room. I’ll sleep on the couch in the den.”
CJ nodded and took RJ to Clark’s room. Bridget led Hope into the guest room, told her to make herself comfortable.
“You don’t have to go to sleep though, you can stay up as long as you want, you can go anywhere in the house, just stay inside, okay sweetie.” Bridget said this as she was standing in the door, Hope didn’t say anything, but ran over and hugged her sister hard. Bridget hugged her back and kissed her on her head. Hope walked back over to the bed and laid down. Bridget quietly shut the door, and walked back out into the main room. Bridget walked over to the wet bar and poured herself a glass of white wine, and walked out onto the deck overlooking the beach. She stood there sipping, lost in thought. CJ came up behind her and put his arms around her waist. She leaned back into him, resting against him. He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. They stood like that for a long while, with Clark watching them with sadness and pride at the same time.
Brooke and Rick stared at the rose.
“How did this get here?” Rick asked taking the rose from his mother. “Mom, you haven’t said much about how Carmine died. What do you know?”
“Not much I’m afraid. Lt. Baker said they weren’t sure.”
“What do you mean not sure?”
“Well, he said that it could be either suicide or murder, but they were investigating it as a murder.”
“I guess that explains the unmarked car out front.”
“You noticed that too,” Brooke said.
Rick placed the rose back on the table. “Yes, I did.”
Brooke looked at it for a moment, and walked over to the couch. She sat down. Brooke noticed that a pot of chamomile tea was set on coffee table in front of the couch. Brooke silently thanked Catherine for her thoughtfulness, and pulled herself a cup of tea. She sat back on the couch sipping. When she finished, she sat the cup back down, and got up to go upstairs. She was mentally and physically exhausted. It had been an awful day. She slowly climbed the staircase and pausing once more at the top she looked at the rose still laying on the table in the foyer. She turned and went to her bedroom, collasping on the bed fully dressed, exhausted.

I'm glad to know that my investigation scenes are at least doing that. Objectively though I think I need to work on the romance end though, and describing details in the scenes a little better. Anyone else that would like to give constructive feedback, good or bad is welcomed too. I want everyone to enjoy it, and would like to know if something just doesn't sit right.

But I understand...I'm not big into Harry Potter, but I was really into Steven King's Dark Tower series, and when that last book came out, you couldn't pry the thing from my hand. (Unless you wanted to risk losing a limb in the process!) So enjoy, I hope the journey ends well and I'll look forward to when you start posting again. p.s. I've found that them pesky romance scenes can be the hardest ones to write myself, especially when you have a lot of other not so romantic stuff going on. However I do like your story just perfectly the way it is.

I woke up this morning and was inspired for some reason. Here is something to ponder while I lose myself this weekend to Harry Potter.
Chapter 4:
Taylor put down her phone, and went upstairs to change. Nick was talking with Carmine’s parents in Italy. On the outside Taylor was calm and collected, but inside she was a mess. How could she do this to herself again, she asked herself. First Ridge and now with Nick, she should have known better that to let herself get involved with another man that wasn’t over Brooke. It was obvious by the way the two of them were today that Nick had deep feelings for Brooke still, and Brooke was more than eager to cry on his shoulder, she thought. How dare she? Taylor changed into a more becoming outfit, and went back downstairs. Nick was just hanging up the phone.
“Nick, I’m going out for awhile.”
“What?”
“I need to get out of the house for awhile.”
“You’re not going to the bar are you?”
“NO, what makes you think that?”
“Your outfit and you don’t look particularly happy, either. You weren’t bothered by Brooke today were you?”
“No, of course not. It’s not Brooke’s fault that her fiancé is dead,” Taylor responded in a concerned voice. “And I understand that you need to deal with business right now.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure. I think I’m going to visit Phoebe, and maybe catch a late movie. Don’t wait up.”
Nick gave Taylor a quick kiss on the cheek, and picked the phone back up to call Clark. He wanted to see if he was able to step in and do some designing for them.
Taylor quietly left the house. She got into her car, and started to cry. Nick never kissed her like he should anymore. After the baby was born, he showed little to no interest in her. Deep down she knew why. Instead of leaving the relationship, she clung to the new child, and threw herself into making the perfect home for them, and she worked part time at the practice. Brooke for her part kept a respectable distance from Nick, even at work. Taylor wanted to blame her, but couldn’t in good conscience. Brooke was trying. When Brooke brought Carmine to LA, Taylor hoped that things would change between her and Nick, go back to the way it was before the infamous custody hearing in which, her testimony appeared to cost Brooke her children; but it didn’t. It was like a switch had been flipped in Nick. Even though Brooke got her children back, the wall Nick had built around himself still remained. Taylor started the car and pulled out of the driveway. She drove around a bit, not wanting to see Phoebe, and ended up at her old house. She sat in the car for a few minutes, collected herself, got out and went up to the door and rang the bell. Ridge answered the door, and Taylor quickly walked through the door, and into the foyer.
“What brings you by, Doc?”
Taylor didn’t say a word, but grabbed Ridge’s hand and led him to the sofa. She reached up a kissed him passionately, and he responded. Ridge and Taylor fell on to the couch madly going at each other, for them nothing else existed but themselves.
Standing outside, a little way from the house, a man stood with a camera, equipped with a long range lens. He watched as Taylor and Ridge collapsed on the sofa, and began to tear their clothes off. He deftly raised the camera and began taking pictures. When he had used up a roll of film, he quietly backed away and left. He made a phone call, informing the person on the other line that he got what he needed, and the appropriate party would have a copy soon. He hung up. There was one other place he needed to go that evening, the Forrester mansion.
When Eric left the police station, he stopped by the mansion and grabbed a day or two worth of clothes. He was fuming inside. Stephanie never knew when to quit, and he was sick to death of it. Ridge wasn’t much better. He decided to go to a hotel and at least stay the night; he would decide what to do in the morning. He drove to the hotel, and settled in his room He ordered room service, ate dinner, and went down to the bar, for a few martinis. When Eric had sufficiently numbed himself with alcohol, he staggered up to his room, and passed out on the bed. Mumbling to himself, about Ridge and Stephanie, and poor Brooke.
Stephanie arrived home, after dropping Ridge off, and let herself into the house. She called Eric’s name several times, instead the maid, Maria, came out and informed her that Mr. Forrester had left with an overnight bag. Stephanie dismissed Maria, and told her she could go home for the evening. Stephanie was in no mood for company. Maria gathered her things and left, telling her mistress that she would see her in the morning. Stephanie didn’t answer, but waved her hand in annoyance. She fixed herself a strong drink, and sat down to savor her victory. Carmine was out of the picture. An evil smiled played about on her face. Stephanie launched her plan of revenge shortly after the HSN sale. She couldn’t believe that the Forrester legacy had been reduced to peddling their clothes on television. She laid the blame squarely on Brooke’s shoulders. If Brooke hadn’t bewitched all the men in the family, and left them heartbroken, and if she hadn’t found Carmine to design for Nick’s Company, Stephanie wouldn’t have been pushed to have Carmine taken care of. Brooke had left her no other choice, Stephanie thought.
Stephanie’s plan started with a call to Mass. She explained to him that she needed his help desperately. He was cool and distance. He was reluctant to get between his two sons again. The last time he did that, he lost control of his company, and there was no definite payoff for the meddling. He told Stephanie as much, and she continued on ignoring his difficult position. Mass didn’t want to pick between the two. Stephanie, reminded him of Nick’s betrayal, and that Brooke was the root of all the strife in the family. She went on berating Jackie, and pleading with Mass to help her. While Mass still had strong feelings for Stephanie, he realized as well, that she would not give up until he said something to make her think he would help her. So, he asked for the name of the designer, and said he would look into it. He hung up the phone, and looking at the name he had written down he had a sudden realization. Rossi, he thought, that sounds very familiar. He picked up the phone again, and made a call to one of his own men, and asked him to work up a dossier on Carmine Rossi. When his employee sent him the package, Mass’s fears were confirmed. The Rossi’s were a very influential family with ties, which far outstripped Mass’s. At that point, he called Stephanie back saying he wouldn’t help her. And warning her that she would be better off leaving the situation alone. He didn’t elaborate in detail, for in this type of situation the less she knew the better. Stephanie didn’t take this news well at all. She lit into Mass, saying how could he do this to her. Why wouldn’t he help her? Mass didn’t budge, whether he wanted to help or not didn’t matter anymore. He was not going to cross a family like the Rossi’s. Stephanie continued to meltdown, and Mass knowing that he couldn’t leave things with her on a good footing, said she was on her own. She replied that she would get it done with or without him; she had connections of her own. He once again, reiterated that she should leave it alone, and hung up on her.
Since Mass wouldn’t help her, she would find someone to do the job for her. She didn’t want to get her hands dirty. She knew exactly who she could call, one of her father’s friends. She remembered a name from her childhood, and as she recalled, that family could help her if she asked. It would cost her, but anything to get the Forrester family back on top. Besides Mr. Golden owed her a favor for selling his business to Nick Marone.

OH MY GOODNESS! This is getting sooooooo good! You have Stephanie and Ridge's relationship pegged perfectly. Eric might as well be a spectator in his own marriage for all the respect and devotion he gets from his so-called wife. How like Ridge to grumble and act as if Eric "betrayed" him for simply telling the truth and not bowing down at his feet. Is it that difficult to understand that Eric wants what's best for ALL his children? And how funny was it that the Forresters were reduced to peddling their wares on HSN?! No wonder Stephanie had her panties in a bunch! Now I knew the woman was vindictive and evil, but who knew she would go so far? Having Carmine murdered?! Not only do I want Lt. Baker to bring her to justice, but I also hope that Massimo's dire warnings about the Rossi family come back to bite her on her ample rump. She may have won the battle, but she's going to lose the war in the end! The sad thing is that the innocent people in her family will probably get caught in the crossfire and there won't be a thing that Massimo--or the police--will be able to do. Poor Taylor! NOT! She made her own bed and is now having trouble lying in it. That she has turned to Ridge, of all people, to soothe her wounded ego is quite intriguing. I'm also intrigued about the photographer and who they're working for and why. Nick has proven to be a real friend to Brooke. I love it! I suspect that as the investigation heats up, she's going to need her friend more than ever. Excellent! The revelation that Stephanie was responsible for

Is the fact that Stephanie was behind the murder surprise you? Through my eyes its a natural progression for the character. Afterall, it's not beyond reason, that she would try something like this again, and to try and get Mass into it. Forrester Originals is very close to going under. She is/was backed into a corner, and when Steph is backed into a corner you better watch out. Now unfortunately she picked the wrong family to mess with, but as is the flaw with her character, she has disregarded all advice, and beleives the only way to rectify the situation is to get Brooke, which is what happened. Brooke is very vulenerable right now, and this is exactly where Stephanie wants her. This is the part of the story that I had to rework. Your Mass, MissJR was just a little too much like mine or vice versa, for my comfort. However, I think the way I altered the plot works very well, and it's actually taken the story in a whole different direction than what I had laid out to begin with. It definately seems to have more intrigue to it this way. Now about Taylor: Poor poor Taylor, this does seem to be her lot in life doesn't it. To be quite honest, I have found it darned near impossible to write ANY ticky/tacky scenes. I've tried several times(not romantic ones), and I just can't seem to get them to flow. Nick is a loyal man, but his loyalties will only go so far. One thing is for sure though, IT will NOT be because of his feelings for Brooke or Brooke's for him that the marriage ends. Oh BTW.....you all will get a very good idea of what my IDEA of Shock and Awe is soon. As always MissJr thank you for your comments! and you too Brickfan!

Awesome, Horsey! You ROCK, girl!
Hag is so evil, having Carmine killed! Whatever did he do to her? But it is just typical for her to blame Brooke for it.
I hope Carmine's family comes after her with both guns blazing. The fact that FatAssimo is afraid of them should give her food for thought. But we all know Hag, she just won't listen to anyone when it comes to her vendetta against Brooke. She ignored Sally and Taylor when they told her not to go after custody of Rick and Bridgette, and they were right. Just like Mass is right this time around.
Stupid woman.

What an evil B-atch! I also don't feel sorry for Tayliar in the least. I do wonder though who has got the goods on her now!

Yes, Mr. Golden had been quite cooperative, Stephanie thought, as she sipped She knew he would come through for her, and apparently he did. Now, all Stephanie had to do was sit back and let the investigation happen. She was confident that there was nothing to tie her to the case. She had been very careful with all the communications to Mr. Golden, and once she convinced him, he told her not to call him anymore, precautionary he explained. She obeyed and sat back and let the chips fall where they may.
She continued to sip her drink, and heard a knock at the door. She set her drink down, got up, and when she opened the door it was a delivery person, with a large manila envelope. He handed it to her and without a word, he turned on his heal, and left. Stephanie closed the door slowly, and ripping open the top of the envelope she pulled out the top picture. She smiled, and thumbed through the rest of them. She laughed out loud, “Wait till Nick sees these.” She walked into her study, and to her desk. She carefully placed two of the most lewd photographs into another envelope, and placed the rest in the bottom drawer of the desk, and locked it with a key. She smiled to herself again imaging the look on Nick’s face, and then she frowned a bit, she was about to put Taylor in a very vulnerable position. Stephanie felt remorseful for that, but it was for Taylor’s own good, she didn’t belong with Nick anyway. Taylor belonged with Ridge. Stephanie was just helping them along, she looked down at the drawer, not that they need much help, she thought with a smile. Stephanie walked back out, and into the great room, and quickly shot down the rest of her drink. She climbed the long grand staircase, glancing down into the room below, before ascending the rest of the way, and walked down the hall, into her bedroom, to retire for the evening.
Meanwhile half a world away, an elderly gentleman quietly hung up the phone. With a look of fury and sadness on his face, he turned to his son.
“Something has happened Demetrio,” the old man said. “When was Filippa (Phillip) supposed to be in Los Angeles with Carmine?”
Demetrio replied, “He has been there for a few days now.”
“Have you heard from him?”
“No, not in the last day.”
The father didn’t reply, but picked up the phone. He dialed the number of his brother. The conversation didn’t last but a moment or two. He turned back to his son.
“Demetrio, I want you to go with your Uncle Leopold, and cousin Lorenzo to LA, you need to bring your brother’s body back home, and find the other.”
Demetrio nodded, keeping his raging emotions in check. “Yes, father”
Demetrio walked out of the room, and left to get ready for his journey. He was seething inside and a cold fury replaced the grief he fought to repress. One of his brother’s was dead, the other missing. After getting his things in order, he left the villa and met his cousin and Uncle at the airport. The three grimly boarded the plane and headed for the city of Los Angeles.
Taylor crept quietly up the stairs of her home. She stopped on the way to her bedroom and peeped in at her child sleeping. She smiled slightly, and went on to her bedroom. Taylor slipped off her clothes and into her satin nightgown. Nick was sleeping fitfully, tossing and turning. She slipped in between the sheets, and tried to snuggle up to Nick. He didn’t respond, but continued to toss and turn. She sighed and turned away from Nick with tears running down her face as she fell asleep.

Awesome, Horsey! You rock!
(Boy, I sound like a broken record.)
So, it is HAG who is having Taylor followed? What I would give to see the look on Taylor's face when she finds that out. And it doesn't surprise me that Hag has lewd pictures of her Precious. She taped him in the steam room all those years ago, now she has porno pictures that would make SkinIMax jealous. My guess is, she is going to make several copies and keep them by her bed.

Horsey this is great! Now, I'm starting to wonder if Carmine and Brooke' relationship was all it was cracked up to be. Or if perhaps Carmine was hiding things from Brooke. I think it's fairly obvious that she knew not of his maffia ties. What I'm most concerned with is if he had hidden motives for courting Ms. Logan. I am SO intreguided! So much so that I can't even spell it! Mr. Golden sounds so familiar, why should I know that name? Ha I can't wait for Nick to get a hold of those pictures!

No doubt! I found it very telling that Horsey made no mention of poor Eric in this chapter! How any mother of a son past puberty could stoop so low is simply beyond comprehension. I'm so looking forward to Carmine's family bringing this despicable hag down! And in answer to Horsey's question above, yes I was genuinely shocked that Stephanie had Carmine murdered. Consider it naive but even as vile as she is, I thought that there were some areas she wouldn't go. So not only is Taylor tipping around on Nick, but she's hurt because he doesn't want to cuddle. Too bad! So sad! I can't wait to read more!
