Horsey, what a thrilling, action-packed installment! Poor Harvey! I hope that delayed gratification is a virtue of his. Yeah, Stephanie outsmarted him this time around but her own body "betrayed" him. I'm cracking up at her physical reactions! I don't envy the emergency room staff in stripping her of her clothing and getting her cleaned up. P-U! BTW--I love your attention to detail, particularly the caliber of the weapons used as well as the force and path of the bullet when the bruiser fired his piece. I also enjoyed the way you described Stephanie's eye contact with Agent Moyer and the agent's air of studied indifference. I have to admit that I was worried that Stephanie would actually take that indifference to heart and blow it.

Thank you MissJr! I'm glad you enjoyed the last two installments. I would LOVE to take complete credit for them, however much of the credit goes to Mr. Horsey. I was stumped on Stephanie's reaction and how I wanted it to play out. He pointed me in the right direction He also pointed out a long term plot direction that I had overlooked, so now there is yet another scernio rattling around my head. Stephanie messing herself was actually an idea I pirated from La Femme Fatale. I hope you don't mind. My husband and I are both avid gun enthusiasts, as we both come from a military background. I try to draw from my personal experiences as much as I can. I have fired both type of weapons myself. Of course a "mobster" would have an Italian gun. We didn't get to see Moyer draw her weapon in this scene, but I beleive there will come a time that she will, and it'll be interesting to see what her weapon of choice is. Again, thank you for reading and your comments.

Clay Riggins was a handler currently placed within the FBI. Agent Moyer contacted him immediately after leaving the Forrester mansion the night before. Riggins had spent the last 5 years at the LA field office, protecting witnesses for counter terrorism and organized crime was his forte. He had the features of a person that could easily change hair or eye color and become an entirely different person. It was for this reason that Moyer had called on him. Even though LA was a large metropolis, the circles that she was attempting to impede had long fingers, and long memories. Therefore before heading into the Beverly Hills precinct Riggins went through his normal routine ahead of a mission. He bleached his currently brown hair, and added brown contacts. He shaved off his goatee and donned a pair of faded Levi jeans, a pair of deck shoes, and a plain short sleeved button down shirt. Moyer sent him a electronic file outlining Nick’s back ground, consequently Clay decided to go with the cover of a old sea going friend. As Nick had spent many years on the open sea, and visiting many ports it was a solid cover. He could be from anywhere and could have met and befriended Nick at anytime.
Nick and Clay walked to Nick’s car. Clay not relaxing his diligent observation of anyone around them. Both exchanged pleasantries, going through the usual dance of two people who are meeting for the first time. The two men reached the car, and got in.
“First we have to get your son and mother, and while we do that we have to decide where to go.” Clay said as he fastened his seat belt.
Nick started the car, backed out of the parking space, and responded; “I’ll have to call my mother, but my son is at home. Should we head there first?”
“Yes,” Clay responded. “Do you have a babysitter or a nanny?”
“Nanny.”
“Give her the rest of the week off, and you also need to call the office and make a plausible excuse for your absence for the next few days. Tell them you‘re going out east to scout for designers” Clay continued as he pulled out his blackberry and started to research. “We need to find an out of the way place where no one would think of looking for you.” Clay quickly pulled up a database of safe houses in California and the surrounding states. He searched for an appropriate place to hole up.
Nick glanced over as he stopped at the entrance of the parking lot. “I have a thought. I was planning on taking my boat out this afternoon. I know of an island that is very secluded.”
Clay raised an eyebrow. “That’s not exactly what I had in mind, but it might work.” He quickly shot a series of questions at Nick.
“How many times have you visited this island?”
“Just a couple of times.”
“How long ago?”
“A year or so.”
“Who else knows about it?”
Nick thought for a moment, “just my ex-wife and her children.”
“That would be Brooke Logan?”
“Yes”
“Is there anyway that Stephanie Forrester would know about it?”
“No,” Nick answered then changed his answer after a moment of thought, “well yes, she does. When I first took Brooke there, she had someone follow us.”
“Hmm….I don’t like that.” Clay frowned. “Any place that Stephanie knows about is compromised. Does your current wife still speak with Stephanie?”
Nick chuckled with irony, “I doubt it. Stephanie had her followed and sent me pictures of a liaison with her ex husband.”
“Ridge Forrester?”
“Yes”
Clay laughed, “yes, I agree. I wouldn’t talk to someone after that. Where is your wife now?”
Nick responded, “I’m not sure. She left word with the nanny that she was going to be staying at a hotel. I think the address is written down at the house.”
Clay nodded. “Back to your idea. I’m not sure if it’s going to work Nick. Although I do like the idea of heading out on the water for a few days. Catalina would be a good place instead. We have two different safe houses on the island, and your mother and son would be comfortable, and we’d blend in well. However I don’t want to take your boat. Too obvious. We would be inviting them to follow us.”
“Okay, how about a charter?”
“Good idea.” Clay was whizzing through the screens on his blackberry looking for a high end boat rental place. “Yes,” he exclaimed. He hit a button and Nick concentrated on traffic as Clay arranged for them to rent a 52 foot Ocean Sport. The clerk told Clay matter of factually that anyone renting a boat that large would need a Captain’s license. Riggins chuckled and responded, “that won’t be a problem.” He finished up the arrangements and disconnected the call. He turned to Nick, “call your mother. Have her meet us at your house.” Nick nodded and hit the button on his own cell which at the moment was mounted on the dash.
“Nicky!” Jackie answered in a musical tone.
“Hey mom, where are you?”
“I’m just leaving Eric’s suite,” Jackie answered her voice ringing thru the car. “Why?”
“Can you meet me at the house?”
“Well, I was just about to go to the hospital with Eric,” Jackie lowered her voice and whispered, “you wouldn’t believe what happened to Taylor.
Nick sighed. “What now?”
“Apparently she overdosed last night. She’s in the hospital right now. Eric is going to take her to a rehab center.”
Clay immediately started to text Moyer, and waited for a return reply. In the mean while, he gave Nick a hard look. Nick picked up on it right away, and convinced his mother that he needed her to go home to meet him. Riggins received a reply, and relaxed a bit.
“Look mom, I know we have a lot going on at the office and the boutiques, and Eric does too, but I need you home…..please.”
“I can’t refuse you when you use that tone with me Nicky. Fine, I’ll be there in 15 minutes.”
Jackie turned to Eric. “I’m sorry Eric, but Nicky needs me at home.”
“I understand completely,” Eric said quietly. “It would have been nice to have some moral support.”
Jackie had never heard Eric so beaten.
“Darling, it’s going to be okay. It will all work out.” Jackie said reassuringly. She gave him a brief hug and a peck on the cheek. He smiled at her. In response Jackie squeezed his hand and walked towards the hotel room door.

I like Clay and his ability to blend in. BTW--did he join the Bureau right after the Sept. 11 terror attacks? I seem to recall that they were heavily recruiting after that, and Clay seems to fit the profile (no pun intended) of the type of agent they needed.
Like Clay, I also believe that any place that Stephanie has knowledge of is compromised. That woman is like an infectious disease! I also have to wonder if these people can get to Taylor especially given her weakened state. I'm sure Jackie will be shocked by what has happened in the last 24 hours. Will she go with Nick willingly especially now that things are on and popping with Eric?

Honestly, I haven't developed Clay's backstory that far yet, but you are correct in that he fits the profile of the type of agents that were heavily recruited just after 9/11. Yes, Taylor is a dilemma for me at the moment. I'm seriously considering a final trip to the crypt for her. (That's not to say it will happen) Hopefully the Rehab center Eric is taking her too has strong security. If Stephanie continues on her current path w/o remorse, there may be nothing that can save her beloved Taylor.

I just adore Agent Moyer - what a kickass babe Bell has a real problem writing any woman, other than Stephanie, as strong and kick ass. While Moyer is not a long term character in this story, her involvement will most likely end when the case is resolved, I wanted a strong woman to foil Stephanie. I've found that sometimes that men can huff and puff and threaten, but it's only when another strong woman takes on the "queen bee" will anything actually change. We'll see if Stephanie is willing.

My humble apologies to my readers. Life once again interrupted and I was unable to get any writing done the past few weeks. Things should be settling down some. I had out of town guests this past week, and I was showing them the sites in the DC and Annapolis area. Look for something on Monday the 16th or Tuesday. ;D

Eric made it to the hospital in good time, considering the traffic that usually tied up the freeway early in the morning. He first made his way to the Burn ICU, and checked in on Ridge. The nursing staff assured him that Ridge was showing improvement, but he was not out of danger quite yet. Another 48 hours would be necessary before they could consider any further surgeries. Eric was barely aware of the nurse as she informed him about skin grafts and other reconstructive surgery. So much had happened so fast, that Eric felt as if he was truly living in an alternate universe, or life had turned into a very bad nightmare. He couldn’t quite wrap his mind around everything. Not only did he have to see to Ridge’s care, but Taylor’s as well. On top of trying to keep Forrester Originals a float. He silently cursed Stephanie. In retrospect, he almost wished that he had never met her at that frat party many many years ago. He realized that she had manipulated him from that time onward, and only now was the ramifications of her presence being made completely clear to him. It was almost as if the fog which he lived most of his life in had lifted, and he was seeing her for exactly what she was. He vowed that he would never let her manipulate him like that ever again. He still loved Ridge, as he did all of his biological children, but there was hurt and anger that went along with that love. He nodded, distracted as the nurse handed him several phone numbers of top notch surgeons for him to speak to concerning Ridge’s rehab, and folded the sheet of paper in half and place it in his inside jacket pocket. With one more glance at Ridge through the big glass window, he sighed and turned to head to Taylor’s room.
As he walked, he went over in his head what he would say to convince Taylor that a stint in a highly recommended Chemical dependence program would be the best thing for her. Taylor, as most psychiatrists, knew what should be done however she had a hard time admitting that she was in need of desperate help. Eric remembered that downward spiral she had been in since Ridge left her. Darla’s death, Thorne’s rejection, and then this latest relationship castrophe with Nick, she was self medicating. Eric was horrified that when he went through her bags at the hotel that she was in possession of a large amount of painkillers, and what doctors call happy pills. Indeed for all of her bravado and insistence that she was just fine, she was hurting very deeply. Again he cursed Stephanie, a little bird had informed him of the pictures that Stephanie had taken of Taylor and Ridge. Eric felt between that and Ridge’s injuries that Taylor was past a simple family intervention. She need professional long term help. Arriving at Taylor’s room he noticed that the door was shut, so he waited by the door. Suddenly he heard screaming and wailing from inside of the room. Several large orderlies ran past him and into the room. Alarmed Eric also went into the room. He watched silently as the orderlies forcibly put Taylor back into the bed, and restrained her with tiedowns to the bed. She continued to scream uncontrollably. Another nurse appeared with a needle. She stuck the needle into Taylor’s arm and a moment later she was obviously calmer, and after another moment she was dozing in a drug induced state. Wordlessly, the nurse motioned for Eric to follow her, which he did. Once outside of the room she told Eric that Taylor’s doctor had made the decision to have her involuntarily committed, which resulted in the scene he had just walked in on.
“Given her response,” the nurse stated matter of factually, “we aren’t going to release her into your custody. She will go directly to another hospital.”
“A mental facility?” Eric asked.
“Yes,” the nurse replied. “At this point we can’t ignore the fact that she is a danger to herself. The amount of medication in her system last night was....well she shouldn’t be here.”
The nurse moved down the hall with Eric following closely, she continued speaking. “I have the name of the hospital we are releasing her too. And you should also know that you weren’t the only visitor Ms. Hayes has had this morning. I believe your wife, Stephanie, paid her a visit this morning as well.
Eric cursed under his breath.

It's great to have you back, Horsey! No wonder Eric was cursing Stephanie; she IS a curse! She leaves nothing but misery in her wake. You would think that after the ordeal she escaped from, she would have better things to do than bother Taylor when the woman is in such a fragile state. Also, could you refresh my recollection about something? Are Nick and Taylor still legally married? So, apparently, Ridge's injuries are so horrific that he's going to need reconstructive surgery in addition to the skin grafts I expected. Without his looks, he'll probably wished he had died.

thank you jilt, although I wouldn't consider this part enthralling.... It is good to be back, MissJr. ;D To answer your question, no they aren't legally divorced yet. Nick has filed for temporary custody and received it. I see no issue with him getting full custody at this point though. I'm working on more as I type, so there should be another installment posted late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Well, I had to come over here and see what the fuss was about.
Horsey, you do not disappoint! At this point, I feel really bad for Taylor. The notion that she took enough pills to nearly kill herself is horrifying, and the fact that she has been on a downward spiral for at least a month is truly tragic.

Eric was deep in thought after observing Taylor in her hysterical state. He agreed with the doctor that she needed help, and he couldn’t believe that Stephanie had made a visit to Taylor that morning. He walked on auto pilot, not really aware of his surroundings, as he made his way to the entrance of the hospital. He literally ran into Det. Moyer as she was escorting Stephanie out of the hospital. Eric finally having more than enough in the past few days. He let loose on Stephanie not caring whether there was an audience or not.
“What in the hell is wrong with you Stephanie,” Eric yelled at her. “Haven’t you caused enough damage to this family at this point? Now you’ve sent your so called best friend over the edge.”
Stephanie who had received a similar tongue lashing from Det. Moyer after she had snuck off to see Taylor looked ashamed momentarily, however she would not allow Eric to verbally attack her like that without an equal response.
“What I’ve done, What I’ve done??!! How about what you’ve done to our family, with your tawdry affairs over the years. Even now, you just left me, and your entertaining your low class hooker wanna be in your hotel room while you first born son is lying in the hospital near death. And don’t even get me started on the way you let that tramp from the valley into our lives and family. YOU’VE RUINED EVERYTHING THAT WE BUILT TOGETHER.”
Detective Moyer watched with amusement, a rueful smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. It fascinated her the extremes that Stephanie would go to. It was no wonder she had gotten herself involved with one of the most notorious mobsters out there.
Eric not to be unmatched countered:
“My first born?” he asked scornfully. “My first born son is Thorne NOT Ridge. May I ask where the father of YOUR first born is? No doubt he’s off at a luxury resort, also entertaining the ladies. Did you ever ask yourself why is it that the men in your life seek solace, love, and compassion from “so called whores”?” Eric drew himself up to full height, and continued. “I’m sick to death of your so called love and devotion to the family. All you do is claim the moral high ground, all the while using underhanded and deceitful actions to further push your agenda. And look what it’s gotten you. Your precious Ridge, as you pointed out, is near death; and all you can do is continue to berate and blame everyone else for the ramifications OF YOUR ACTIONS!!”
Stephanie bristled at the words, knowing that they were the truth, however she would never admit it to anyone aloud. She rushed past Moyer, and made to kick Eric in the groin. However Moyer intervened, and stopped her dead in her tracks by grabbing her arm and twisting it around in such a manner that if Stephanie had continued the hospital staff would be applying a cast to it.
“Let go of me,” Stephanie hissed.
“Mrs. Forrester,” Moyer admonished. “You really don’t want to assault Mr. Forrester. Especially in front of an officer, I would have to add another charge to the numerous charges that are already pending against you.”
Stephanie glared at her, while Eric looked quite smug.
“I told you the last time you assaulted me that it would be the last,” Eric cooly asserted. Stephanie’s head whipped back to him, while he continued. “Thank you Agent Moyer.”
“Come on Mrs. Forrester,” Agent Moyer prodded. “After the night and morning you’ve had, I think it’s best if you and I have a nice conversation on the way to the barracks.”
“The barracks?” Stephanie blanched.
“Yes, the barracks.” Moyer stated as she kept a hold of Stephanie’s arm and continued to lead her to Agent Moyer’s car.

Heeee Heeee! Surely, Stephanie didn't think she would be returning to her Beverly Hills mansion and lifestyle, did she? Given the type of people she's dealing with, she's lucky that she's not in protective custody in some undisclosed location. She's also lucky she's not wearing that special piece of jewelry around her ankle to monitor her movements. I see that she's capable of showing shame when one mentions her BFF, Taylor. But, she never hesitates to trot out the same redundant attacks against Eric, Brooke or anyone else. Eric is my hero for reminding his duplicitous wife that Thorne is, in fact, his first born--NOT Ridge! I love it! The dig about Massimo was particularly delicious especially when Eric made a point of reminding Stephanie of why her men seek solace from other women. I know she was HOT!! I guess there's nothing like having the truth thrown back in your face! I'm surprised that the hospital hasn't contacted Nick. Since he's legally still Taylor's next of kin, is he still responsible for her care and making decisions for her? And if something happened to Taylor, would Nick technically be considered her widower? Poor Stephanie! All her scheming and Ridge and Taylor had to go and get in trouble before they could officially reunite!

And it is just like her to start in on her Brooke-bashing crap.

Little does Eric or Stephanie know, but Mass is in a hospital in Italy. I think Stephanie would be truly aghast if she ever finds out who actually spilled the beans to Mr. Rossi. Ah, I did catch that with your last question concerning Taylor and Nick's divorce. An oversight I will correct very shortly. ;D

Forrester. Especially in front of an officer, I would have to add another charge to the numerous charges that are already pending against you.” Stephanie glared at her, while Eric looked quite smug. “I told you the last time you assaulted me that it would be the last,” Eric cooly asserted. Stephanie’s head whipped back to him, while he continued. “Thank you Agent Moyer.” “Come on Mrs. Forrester,” Agent Moyer prodded. “After the night and morning you’ve had, I think it’s best if you and I have a nice conversation on the way to the barracks.” “The barracks?” Stephanie blanched. “Yes, the barracks.” Moyer stated as she kept a hold of Stephanie’s arm and continued to lead her to Agent Moyer’s car. Whoa, awesome! I am going to have to reread this just to catch up.
Hag is something else! Taylor has been on a downward spiral for months, and the old bitch didn't even notice. Now Taylor and her children are going to be collateral damage.
And it is just like her to start in on her Brooke-bashing crap. One thing I've noticed about Stephanie over the years, is that she always blames someone else. My departed father in law used to say "should be pointing the thumb instead of the finger" Stephanie is the epitome of that statement. and I'm reading yours as well
