Oooh.” The sound of Hope’s voice brought everyone’s attention back to her. “The police? Has Aunty Stephanie been naughty?”
OMG That's the most hilarious remark I've heard. Hope has no idea yet how naughty Steph can be.
This was my favorite line too. Mine too! Even with all the heartache and uncertainty, there is some humor to be found in the innocence of a child's question. BTW, I'm tickled that she refers to Stephanie as "Aunty" instead of "Grandma." Did someone set the little cherub straight about that? I love the PI! I was cackling at his obvious discomfort with emotional people. That he was able to get the job done so quickly is great. He was very observant, too, and he cracked me up when he mentioned how the decoy lost a few inches in height and girth! And how like the rich Stephanie to take advantage of someone who is obviously needy. Hopefully, this woman won't get into any serious trouble and will cooperate with the authorities. Stephanie clearly has no shame and knew that $1,000 would be like a king's ransom to someone in this woman's dire straits. The question, of course, is where are Taylor and Dylan? Surely, the child will be returned unharmed to his REAL parents? Thank you for sharing your writing with us, Norm811!

“Has Aunty Stephanie been naughty?” Nick struggled to keep the grin off his face as he replied to Hope’s innocent question. “Yes honey Aunty Stephanie has been very naughty and so has Aunty Taylor.” Hope’s eyes widened at his response and she looked up at her mother for confirmation. For her whole life she had been told how wonderful Aunty Taylor was, as far as she knew she was never naughty. “Uncle Nick’s right, the’ve been very naughty.” Brooke confirmed softly. Nick looked at the children and tried to work out a way to tell them the whole sordid tale in a way that they would understand. After a few moments of evaluating what he needed to say he cleared his throat nervously and began. “You guys know that Aunty Taylor had a baby boy right?” When he saw both of the children had nodded in confirmation Nick continued hesitantly. “Well there was a mix up when the hospital put the baby into her tummy, they put Mommies baby in by mistake.” Hope and RJ were silent and looked at him with wide eyes, from her position between them Brooke reached out to hold their hands in support and directed an encouraging look at Nick. “We didn’t know that Dylan was Mommies baby until after he was born and they ran a special test. Unfortunately when Aunty Taylor found out she was really upset and she decided that she wanted to keep him. She and Aunty Stephanie took him away and now the Police are trying to find him.” Hope looked solemnly at Nick and then up at her mother and they could see that she was trying to assimilate the information. “So Dylan is our baby?” “Yes honey, Dylan is Mommies and my baby.” He responded, smiling at the feeling of joy that swept over him as he said the words. Saying it aloud made everything seem real. “He is your brother and RJ’s and Rick and Bridget’s brother too.” “Will he live here with us?” RJ piped up as he bounced up and down eagerly, looking around at the adults. “It’s complicated.” Brooke said regretfully. “The Judge and the Police may have to decide that after they find him.” “But Dylan and I would very much like to come and live here with you guys and your Mommy.” Nick said as he looked over at Brooke and the kid’s with bated breath, hoping for a positive response to his pleas. He was not disapointed. “Really?” Hope squealed as she jumped up and ran into his arms closely followed by RJ. Nick felt his heart swell with happiness as he looked down at the two children. He had always loved them, even though they were not biologically his and having Dylan had not changed that. There were tears in his eyes when they met Brooke’s and he realized that she was crying as well. “There is nothing I want more than to live here with you and Mommy and Dylan.” Hope sat back a little and looked around seriously at the adults before declaring, “We should celebrate. I think that we should stay up really late and have chocolate milk and cookies and wait for the Police to bring our baby back.” Brooke shook her head at her youngest daughter, trying to ignore the pang on sadness she felt at Hope’s innocent acceptance of Dylan as theirs. “Sorry young lady, it’s bath and bed for you in that order.” “Oh Mommy!” Nick, RJ and Hope wailed in chorus, identical looks of disappointment on their faces. Rick tried not to smile at the three of them, they could not have looked any more like a family at that moment. “How about I take RJ and Hope up for their bath’s and give Mommy and Uncle Nick a bit of time to ‘talk’ and then maybe Mommy and Uncle Nick can come up to read you a story.” He announced with a wicked grin on his face that grew wider as a blush spread over his Mother’s face at his insinuation. “Yeah!” The kids exclaimed as they jumped up and willingly followed their older brother up the stairs chattering like a pair of magpies all the way. “I’ve always liked that boy.” Nick quipped as he jumped up and joined Brooke on the sofa. “Let’s talk.” Brooke giggled as he swept her into his arms and started noisily kissing her neck. “Nick, we have things to discuss.” She protested weakly, pushing against his chest with a smile. He kissed her softly on the lips and then on the forehead. “Ok, you’re right.” He admitted seriously as he cuddled her close. “What if…” “Don’t” He interrupted, knowing what she was about to say. “We’ll find him, he’ll be home before you know it.” Brooke sighed, hoping he was right. Her heart felt as empty as her arms and she longed to hold her son for the first time. She and Nick had come full circle back to one another, she only hoped that their son would soon join them.

Awwww that was so sweet! I loved Hope's wide-eyed surprise at Aunty Taylor being naughty! And of coarse her proclaimation that they should stay up late eating milk and cookies until the police brought their baby home.

I can't help but laugh at Hope's innocence! What a sweet child! I love how she refers to Dylan as "our baby." The children were also adorable in taking it for granted that Nick and Dylan would come and live with them. But the most adorable of all was Rick. What a very astute young man! As always, Bricky simply sizzles even in the most tragic of circumstances. I can't wait for the next installment!

Stephanie sat opposite her husband the coldness of his expression mirrored in the sterile room. Glaring at him she set her face into an expressionless mask and remained silent. Despite repeated attempts by the police over the past few hours she had barely uttered a word. In desperation they had called Eric in the hope that he could convince her to talk, he’d failed. Stephanie had known as soon as he’d entered the room that Brooke had gotten to him first and that he had already taken a side, obviously not hers. He never took her side over that tramp’s she fumed silently, it was always Brooke, the hold that she had over the men in the Forrester family was puzzling to Stephanie, even after all this time she did not get it. So they sat across from one another in stony silence, neither willing to break the standoff first. From the other side of the glass partition the detectives shook their heads ruefully, their plan had obviously backfired, if anything Mrs Forrester was less willing to talk than she had been before her husband came in. Inside the room Eric swallowed his pride and spoke first. “Stephanie I’ve had about enough of this foolishness. You have to tell the police where Taylor and the baby are.’ Stephanie glared back at him and mutely shook her head. “The baby is premature and he could well be in great danger, don’t you understand that this is not just about your vendetta against Brooke? An innocent child’s life is at stake here, are you willing to risk that?” “Hah!” Stephanie spat angrily as her face reddened in anger. “Taylor is a Doctor, we knew that he would be safer with her than with Brooke.” “So you freely admit that Taylor took the child and that you were involved.” Stephanie’s face paled as the Detective walked through the door grinning smugly as he moved over to her side of the desk and confidently perched himself by her side. “If you don’t want to spend time in jail you’d better tell us what you know.” The mention of jail made Stephanie pause for a moment, but she calmed herself and continued her ploy of silence, That one outburst had nearly tripped her up but she felt her confidence return as she reassured herself that she was Mrs Stephanie Forrester and now Judge in California was going to send her to jail. Especially after she told them why she and Taylor had been forced to take action, once they heard about Brooke they would understand. As soon as they saw the type of woman Brooke was and how perfect Taylor was in comparison they’d put Brooke in jail instead. With any luck she could convince Ridge to petition for custody of RJ and then she could work on bringing Ridge and Taylor together again. Seeing that his wife had descended back into a stubborn silence Eric’s control on his temper snapped and he pushed himself to his feet. “Don’t you realize that Dylan could die? What kind of monster are you? You have the life of a baby in your hands..” Stephanie just smiled up at him and shook her head again, confidently thumbing her nose at everyone else in the room. “Fine! If you ever get out of here your things will be at Ridge’s, don’t bother coming home. I’ll have my lawyer contact you.” Stephanies eyes widened in shock as she watched her husband stalk out the door without a backwards glance. “Eric!” She screeched angrily, “Eric, you come back here right now!” He did not respond, he made no motion to indicate that he had heard her, he just kept walking. Stephanie could not believe the stupidity of the man, who was going to drive her home when the idiots at the police department let her go. Now she would have to bother poor Ridge, Eric was so inconsiderate. The sound of the door opening broke into her thoughts and she looked up to find herself surrounded by police officers, with very happy looks on their faces. “Good news Mrs Forrester, we’ve traced you cell phone calls over the past two days and thanks to that we have been able to trace Mrs Marrone’s movements. we now have a very good idea of where she is hiding. It won’t be long now.” In a small hotel on the outskirts of Las Vegas Nevada, Taylor tapped the gauge on the portable oxygen cylinder hoping in vain that the reading would change. Damm Stephanie she was supposed to call and arrange for a replacement cylinder, at this rate baby Jack only had enough oxygen to last him another few hours. Frantically she paced the room going through her options, she knew that by now the police would be looking for her and the fact that she had not heard from Stephanie in 36 hours meant that they could be onto her. She could not just go out and get another bottle of oxygen, even if she managed to find one, the police would probably trace it back to her. On the bed beside her the baby let out a plaintive wail and drew his tiny legs up to his stomach as he waved his arms in distress. Frowning Taylor reached over to run a soothing hand over his face, only to snatch her hand back in horror as she realized how warm he was. “No, no, no, not now.” She muttered as she ran to the bathroom to grab a cool washcloth, “Hang on Jack, Mommy will fix you.” She paused in the doorway and whispered to herself, “I Hope.” Brooke sat up in bed with a gasp, her hand flying to her pounding chest. “Brooke? What’s wrong?” Nick mumbled sleepily. “Something’s not right!” Suddenly very awake as he comprehended the panic in her voice and he watched helplessly as she gently checked the two small children that slept between them. Realising that both were fine, she looked over at him with a confused expression that changed to panic as she came to a sudden realization of what had woken her in such a fright. “It’s Dylan.” She whispered quietly as fear filled her heart, “Nick, something is very wrong with our baby.”

OMG! You can't stop there! Are the cops serious? Are they really close to finding Taylor or are they just trying to smoke Stephanie out?
Damn Stephanie is one delusional woman! If that baby dies.... I can't even finish the thought.

If she was the means to the equally delusional and vindictive Taylor getting oxygen for the baby, why won't she speak up? Would she rather have the baby die? Good for Eric for finally growing a pair! And how dumb is "Dr. Hayes" anyway? Actually relying on someone else to provide something as vital as oxygen? I really hope Brooke follows her instincts and that they get to Dylan before anything tragic happens. And could you PLEASE let her get her pound of flesh from those two pit vipers? I can't wait to see what's next!

Ok seeing that you all asked so nicely..
Stephanie stalked out of the Police Station with a stony expression on her face; only a slight flush on her cheeks indicated the depth of her embarrassment. Allowing Ridge to lead her through the throng of reporters and photographers, she remained resolutely silent, ignoring their shouted questions. “Did you aid the abduction of Brooke Logan’s son?” “Have you been charged?” “Any comment on the pictures published today of your husband out and about with Jacquie Marrone?” The last question was almost enough to break her silence, but she remained mute, biting her lip until they were finally past the crowd and into Ridge’s waiting car. Her stoic silence continued until they were underway and she finally allowed her shoulders to slump in exhaustion. “Ok Mother, what’s the real story? What mess have you and Taylor managed to get into this time?” Stephanie turned to look at her beloved eldest son in amazement. How could he accuse her or Taylor of any wrongdoing? “The Police have nothing on me, that’s why we are in this car on the way home.” Ridge rolled his eyes; his mother had always excelled at seeing things her own way. “Mother you’re on bail, under suspicion of aiding and abetting a kidnapping. Not to mention that you are on your way to my home because Dad has locked you out of your own home.” “I did what was right, if your Father can’t see that it is his loss.” Stephanie countered briskly. “Taylor is the best Mother for that baby anyone can see that.” Ridge just sighed and shook his head in exasperation. “Do you at least know that they are ok? Taylor has only just given birth and the baby is premature.” “Of course they are ok.” Stephanie snapped, before stopping to consider his query for a moment. “I’m sure their fine, but you could do me a favor.” “What?” “I’m being watched and I’m sure that my phones are being tapped. So I need you to buy one of those disposable phones and contact Taylor for me.” “No.” Ridge said firmly, deliberately keeping his eyes on the road to avoid the pleading look he was sure that she was giving him. “Honey Taylor needs you. I was supposed to send her some cash and organize another oxygen cylinder…” Ridge’s whipped his head around to stare at her incredulously. “The baby’s out of oxygen?” “Well yes, probably, well maybe he might be soon.” She admitted casually. “But you can organize another bottle without arousing suspicion and everything will fine.” “I will phone her,” Ridge said firmly, “but only to convince her to give herself up.” “Give herself up.” Stephanie shrieked, “So she can come back here and lose her medical license, possibly go to jail.” “Mother..” Stephanie waved her hand to interrupt what he was going to say. “Do you really want that baby to be raised by Brooke and Nick? Do you want Nick raising RJ? Because that’s what will happen.” Ridge did not reply, his mind busily going over his Mothers comments and what his options were. Helping Taylor was fraught with risk and danger, but he owed her. He could not take the chance that she would reveal their secret. Nor did he want ‘Popeye’ raising RJ and he definitely did not want Nick and Brooke together. If Stephanie told Taylor that he’d refused to help her, the secret that was his key to staying in Brooke’s life could be revealed and he could not risk that after all this time. There was no choice he would have to do it. “Fine, give me the damn number and I’ll do it.”
Nick watched helplessly as Brooke paced across the lounge, still dressed in the tank and boxers she’d gone to bed in. They’d been up all night and no matter what he said he had been unable to calm her. “Brooke, Honey, please sit down.” He implored as he deliberately stepped into her path. “You’ve barely slept or eaten in days, you can’t keep this up.” She looked up at him with sad eyes and mutely shook her head, she had no words left, no tears left to cry, she just felt numb. “The kids will be up soon and the last thing they need to see is you falling apart.” Brooke allowed herself to be drawn into his arms and for a few moments she lent into him, absorbing his love and comfort. But a moment was all she could allow herself before her fears for Dylan reared up again. Pushing away from him she stalked over to the sofa. “Damn.” She cried angrily, punching the top of the sofa before leaning on it and bowing her head. “I feel so helpless.” Nick watched her despair and it echoed his own. They had heard nothing for hours, not since the Police had phoned to advise that Stephanie’s last phone call had been routed off a Las Vegas signal tower. It was a start but Las Vegas was a big city, there was plenty of places to hide and no guarantees that they were still there. “I’m tired of waiting for someone to bring our son home. I need to do something.” Brooke said in quiet desperation. “I know, I hate waiting too, but I have a private detective on the case and the Police are doing everything they can.” “I know, I know, sorry to be so difficult.” Brooke apologized, leaning back against him as he stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Nick smiled and kissed the top of her head, “You’ve always been high maintenance.” He teased, “But I happen to think that you’re worth it.” Brooke smiled and turned in his arms to face him. “I couldn’t get through this without you.” He dropped a brief kiss on her lips and smiled down at her. “You don’t have to get through anything without me ever again. I promise.” She nodded and pulled him closer, tucking her head beneath his chin. “I hope so.” She whispered tremulously. “God, I hope so.”
Taylor struggled through the entrance of the free clinic with the baby carrier, all the while thinking of ways to kill her ex husband. He’d phoned, promising money and a replacement oxygen cylinder, she’d waited hours and still nothing. In desperation she’d found a free clinic in the phone book and caught a cab, hoping that she was doing the right thing. As she entered the shabby clinic all eyes were on her and she wished she’d thought to dress down a little. She stood out like a sore thumb in her designer tracksuit. Breathless with exertion she hustled up to the counter. “My name is Tara Hamilton, my baby’s running a temperature.” The receptionist looked her up and down skeptically; she did not look like she belonged in this city let alone this clinic. “Are you sure you’re in the right place honey?” “Yes.” Taylor snapped, before taking a breath and trying to modify her tone. “My car was stolen, my baby’s premature and his spare oxygen bottle was taken. I need some help, I can’t get his temperature down.” “Ok Ms Hamilton, I’ll get someone out with some more oxygen and the Doctor will see you shortly.” Taylor turned and made her way to the worn but clean waiting area and sat down with relief. Hopefully by the time the Doctor had treated Jack, her idiot ex-husband would have organized her some more money and she could be out of this gaudy city without anyone being the wiser. “Oh my god! Taylor Forrester.” Taylor looked up in dismay as she heard her real name and paled in shock as she saw a familiar face. Of all the clinics in the world she had to pick the one where he worked. “Hi Mark.”

Norm811 this is sooooooo good. Bad luck for Taylor, eh? I just hope she doesn't do something stupid like running away again. Oh please let the baby be o.k. Wonder if Dr. Mark is still corrupt? So Taylor and Rigdge share a dirty little secret about Ridge's last bond to Brooke? Can't wait to see that unravel. I had to chuckle at that “Ok Mother, what’s the real story? What mess have you and Taylor managed to get into this time?” Ridge is still a jerk, but at least you granted him little brain. I absolutely LOVE your Bricky scenes. You're doing a wonderful job there. It is really mind boggling to see all the possibilities Brat has/ had and is/ was just too stupid to pick up. Thank you so much for doing it instead and fixing Bricky. Can't wait to see how it continues. ;D

Thank you for your latest installment, Norm811! Ahhhhh! For a quick moment there, it seemed like Ridge was actually growing a pair. Then they shrunk right on back up again and disappeared! Just like his ex-wife, it's all about his self-interest at this point. I'm very curious as to what they did that he doesn't want exposed. Does he want to hold on to this last bond to Brooke because he really loves her, or is it simply all about besting Nick? The Bricky scenes were great! Nick is making himself quite comfortable, isn't he? I'm not mad at him though. He and Brooke share a child and they really need one another right now to get through this crisis. Poor Taylor! How like her to be all pissy and wanting to kill her ex-husband because he's messing up her plans. Just when she thinks she's getting away with something, she runs into someone who knows her. So did Dr. Mark lose his privileges at the other hospital? I'm eagerly waiting to see how this all plays out!

Sorry for the delay, I have been in Sydney climbing the Harbour Bridge (the only ‘bridge’ I am willing to support!)
“Hi Mark.” Mark MacClaine looked down at Taylor and shook his head in bemusement, what on earth was a member of the mighty Forrester clan doing in a free clinic of all places? “What are you doing here?” Taylor stood up, her mind whirling, how was she going to explain this. Taking a deep breath she decided that the best idea was to continue with the lie that she had told the receptionist. “My car was stolen, they took everything including my baby’s spare oxygen bottle, then, I realized that his temperature was up and this was the closest medical facility.” Mark looked down at the baby carrier and the tiny child nestled within, his practiced eyes noted his flushed face and the trouble he was having breathing. “Ok, come with me, he needs some oxygen. Don’t worry we’ll sort him out.” Picking up the carrier, he motioned for Taylor to follow him to the rear examination rooms. Neither of them noticed the news bulletin on the television behind them, but the Receptionist did. As she watched a picture of Taylor and then a photo of the baby flashed up, followed by a tele-text request for information and a phone number. Shaking her head she cursed under her breath, she knew there was something odd about that woman, picking up the phone she dialed the number, hoping that someone would respond before they left.
Ridge paced back and forth angrily, looking around the grubby motel room. Where the hell was she? He’d arrived with the money and the oxygen, admittedly he was several hours late, but he was an important man, he could not just take off on a moments notice. Besides he’d had a date with Ashley last night and after everything he’d been through wasn’t he entitled to a night off? As he passed the phone, he realized that their was a post-it note beside it. Picking it up he read it and thumped his fist against the wall in frustration. Damn that woman, she’d gotten impatient waiting for him and taken the baby to some clinic. Well, he thought self-righteously, I’m not waiting around here. Finding a pen on the table next to the phone, he flipped over the note and wrote his own. Taylor. Got tired of waiting, have left the money and oxygen for you, if you need anything else call mother. Ridge. Sighing in satisfaction, he stuck the note to the phone and placed the envelope containing the cash beside the note leaving as quickly as possible. With any luck that would be the last favor he would have to do for Taylor and she and the baby would just disappear.
Brooke smiled as she looked over at the pool, the sound of Hope’s squeals of joy were music to her ears. Rick and Bridget had arrived just after Nick had departed, something that she was sure was not an accident. Nick had been so thoughtful and caring, she was certain that when he had realized that he had to meet with the Police for an update, that he had phoned them so she would not be alone. As she sat on the sun lounger, her two eldest children were playing in the pool with their younger siblings, despite the happiness of the scene, she could not stop her mind from drifting to the child that was not there. Dylan was the missing piece that would make her life complete, she only hoped that Nick would bring back some good news. As if in response to her thoughts the phone that lay on the table beside her rang. “Hello?” “Brooke, I’m at the police station, there’s been a lead on Dylan.” She raised her hand to her chest and tried to speak, but words failed her. “Brooke? Are you there? Did you hear me? They have a lead.” She swallowed the lump in her throat and replied huskily, “What is it? Have they found him? Is he ok?” “Not yet, they had a phone call from a medical clinic on the outskirts of Vegas, the Receptionist saw the news report and she thinks that she saw Taylor and the baby.” “Oh my God! A medical center, what’s wrong with him? Was he Ok?” she cried desperately, sitting upright all the color draining from her face. From the pool, Rick, Bridget and the kids heard the panic in her voice and became silent. Rick handed RJ over to Bridget and pulled himself out of the water. Seeing the fear on his Mothers face he reached over and took the phone from her shaking hand. “Nick? What’s happening?” “Is your Mom Ok?” Nick asked, his concern for Brooke almost overwhelming him. But he was torn, between being by her side and chasing up this lead. Rick looked down at Brooke’s pale face and responded softly. “She’s holding on by a thread Man, what is going on?” “There has been a sighting of Taylor and the Dylan in Las Vegas, just tell your Mom that I am taking the jet to check it out and let her know that the baby is fine. I’ll call when I get there.” “Ok, I’ll let her know.” Nick let out a audible sigh. “Will you stay with her? She really needs her kids around her right now.” “Of course we will. But Nick,” Rick paused and walked beyond his mother’s hearing. “What she really needs is for you to bring that baby back to her.” “I’m trying everything I can Rick, I’ll call when I know more.” The phone disconnected with a hollow click and Rick walked to sit beside Brooke. “Dylan is fine, he’ll be home soon.” He reassured her, hoping desperately that Nick got to Las Vegas in time.

This is wonderful! Ridge is unbelievable! I also hope that his selfishness and utter stupidity lands him in hot water with the police. Leaving a note? In his own handwriting?! You illustrate perfectly just why he and Taylor are perfect for one another. They'll never be anything but a couple of killjoys in other people's relationships. They apparently hate Brooke and Nick so much that they would rather treat that poor baby as disposable than to do the right thing by him. I'm sure that when Stephanie finds out what Ridge did, he'll wish the police will have gotten to him first! I hope that Rick wasn't too hasty in building Brooke's hopes up. What if Nick can't deliver right away? Hopefully, he'll get there before anything happens to the baby. I do agree with Nick too that Brooke really needs her children with her right now. I'm looking forward to reading more!

:)Awesome! You ROCK! And it is just like Ridge to put his getting laid in front of everything. Imagine, satisfying his bottomless craving for ego-masturbation before anything else! It's not like Ashley would have left town. I hope this latest stunt winds him up in jail.

Thanks so much for your enthusiastic response. Mark worked quickly on the baby, automatically hooking him up to oxygen and setting up for a drip. No matter what the medical board said, he was a good Doctor, he’d just made some bad choices. Luckily Jack’s infection appeared to be mild and the antibiotics should soon clear that up. As he worked he could not stop his mind was racing over the implications of Taylor walking into this clinic. Was it a coincidence? If not what did she want? Trying to compose himself, he finished with the baby and turned to face her. Time to get some answers. “So why are you really here?” Mark queried, as he searched her face for a clue to her motives. All he saw was a woman who had once turned every head in the room, who looked every one of her years. “Look,” Taylor responded quickly, “I had no idea that you worked here, I just needed some oxygen and antibiotics for my son.” Mark looked at her with a dubious expression on his face. “Sure you did, is this even your baby?” “Of course it is!” Taylor snapped back angrily. “More or less.” She muttered under her breath. “Well I couldn’t be sure, you know your families track record, you all seem to have more trouble naming the parents of your children, than naming the actual children.” Taylor seethed silently, walking over to the bed to check on Jack. She noted with some relief that his color was looking better and that he was calm and nearly falling asleep. “Look, I have no desire to dig up the past..” “Good.” Mark interrupted “I have done everything that Ridge and Stephanie asked of me and I have paid the price. Why do you think that I am practicing medicine in this dive?” Taylor snorted inelegantly and shook her head at him. “You were paid very well for your part in Stephanie and Ridges schemes, I am surprised you even need to work.” “I obviously was not paid enough, maybe I should make a phone call and see if Brooke will give me some money to tell her what I know. From what I understand she would be very happy to find out about what Ridge did.” She was quiet for a moment before shrugging her shoulders, “Do what you like, I wasn’t involved in Ridges little plan to get Brooke back. Do you even know who’s child RJ is? Did you do the test or did you just tell Ridge what he wanted to hear?” “Of course I did.” “So?” “So what?” Mark teased her, knowing exactly what she wanted to know. “What was the result!” “Lets put it this way.” He replied with a grin. “Ridge should be glad that he paid me, it was money well spent.” Taylor thought for a moment about what it would mean if she allowed the secret of RJ’s paternity to be revealed. On one hand it would make both Brooke and Nick blissfully happy, not a result that she would be content to live with. On the other hand it would make Ridge miserable and remove any chance of him staying in Brooke life, no way that Nick would want him any where near Brooke or RJ, or DJ as she supposed he should be called. In the end the lure of making her ex husband miserable won out. “I could not care less. Ridge has let me down for the last time, do what you like. What about me? How much will it cost me for you to forget you ever saw me?” Mark raised an eyebrow at that and Taylor grew concerned as she saw the calculating look enter his eyes. “If this is your baby then why are you so worried? What have you done now Mrs Marrone and what does your husband think about this little impromptu trip of yours. Come to think of it, why is the wife of the very rich and powerful Nick Marrone here? Why didn’t you just call hubby? ” “How much?” Mark thought for a minute, realizing from the look on her face that she was very desperate. “One hundred grand. Within the next hour, I want it before you leave.” He responded with a grin. “It won’t get me out of here, but it will make my life more comfortable.” Taylor did a quick calculation in her head and grimaced at the result. There was no way that she could come up with that amount of money so quickly. Not without tipping off the police to where she was. She wrung her hands together and felt the cut of her engagement ring into her skin. Ripping it from her finger she handed it to Mark. “Are you proposing?” He quipped. “Shouldn’t you get down on one knee.” Taylor glared at him. “No you idiot. This is worth at least twice what you asked for, this is Vegas, there is a pawn shop on every corner.” “Ok, it will do.” Taylor sighed in relief. “How long until Jack is ready to go?” “About another 45 minutes, it will take that long for the drip to run through.” Mark responded as he pocketed the ring. “I’ll leave you here, Mrs Hamilton.” Taylor felt relief sweep through her at his use of her assumed name and she breathed out deeply as he left the room. She had done it, now all she had to do is hope that her idiot ex husband had dropped off the money and then she could leave this god forsaken place. From here she could head east and hopefully she and Jack could start a new life, she would get by. In time she would contact her older children and when it was safe they would be able to visit, perhaps even live with her. It was probably best that she get them away from the Forrester’s, they were not exactly good role models for her children, they would be better off with her. With her own ingenuity and Stephanie’s help she would make sure that Nick and Brooke suffered a lifetime of pain wondering where their beloved son had gone. Nick tapped his fingers against the armrest of his seat in an impatient tattoo. He had not spoken a word since they boarded, his thoughts focused on bringing Dylan home. From his window he could see the city of Las Vegas spread out below. Within minutes they would be on the ground and being met by the Las Vegas PD, hopefully on the way to the clinic where his son was. Brooke and her children were counting on him to complete their family, this was their first concrete lead on Taylor’s whereabouts. He only hoped and prayed that they would be on time.
