Ok this story line is drivng me nuts so I thought I would try and fix it.
Taylor smiled as she looked around the busy show room where preparations for the latest showing of Brooke's Bedroom, designed by Brooke and Clark were well underway. With a self-satisfied pat to her very rounded stomach she reflected back over the past 8 months with a sense of immense satisfaction. Forrester Creations was thriving under Nick’s astute business guidance, the addition of Brooke and Jackie’s fashion know how and a rejuvenated Clark Garrison as their designer had seen the company grow in leaps and bounds. Forrester Originals had floundered initially with all of the pressure on Eric to design and run the company with Ridge in jail. However now that he had been released they were slowly building a market, they were not in ‘Creations’ league to their bitter disappointment and competition was just as fierce between the two companies, Taylor was pleased to be on the “winning team”. Despite her initial misgivings about Brooke being involved with the company and working so closely with Nick, Brooke had kept her promise and had not interfered in their marriage. To the amazement of everyone, especially Stephanie, Taylor and Brooke had struck up a tentative friendship. Which of course allowed Nick to spend time with Hope and as an added benefit gave Taylor the ability to monitor the other woman’s feelings for Nick. Taylor was under no illusion that Brooke’s feelings for Nick had just disappeared, he blonde rival was as much in love with Nick as ever. But she made a good attempted to hide it and made no effort to entice Nick in anyway and that Taylor could live with. Brooke had filled her life to the brim with her children and work, Rick’s emotional upheaval after admitting that he had shot Grant Chambers had taken a lot of her time as had Bridget’s seemingly out of the blue emotional breakdown. Taylor had kindly offered to council the younger woman and with some strong medication Bridget seemed to be slowly coming good. Taylor’s life was just as she wanted it and if Nick’s eyes lingered on Brooke a little longer that they should when they were together that was ok. Because Taylor was carrying Nick’s child, his only child and she knew her husband well enough to know that he would never leave them, this child was the glue that would bind them together forever. Sighing happily she smiled, all was right in her world. Brooke was consumed with work and her children, as well as avoiding Ridges futile attempts at a reconciliation and Nick was devoted to her and their baby. Jackie knew which side her bread was buttered and despite her obvious preference for Brooke she had made a concerted effort to include Taylor in her family. No one would ever find out the secrets that she kept, Bridget was too doped up on medication and confused by Taylor’s counseling, she would never tell anyone the truth about the donor egg mix up. The hospital had been silenced by the threat of legal action and Rick had believed Taylor when she had told him that Bridget had been in the midst of her breakdown and that the baby was not Brooke, Bridget had made it all up. It had been so easy to convince everyone that with the strain of losing Nicole and her second pregnancy coupled with the fact that Taylor was now pregnant with Nick’s child had finally pushed her over the edge. She was sure that she had covered all the bases and as for the other secret, the one that she and Ridge shared, both of them had a reason to keep it and she was sure it would go to their graves.
Taylor’s life was good and no-one was going to take that away from her, no-one.

Nick relaxed beside the pool a cold beer in his hand and watched as Rick & Pheobe played in the water with RJ and Hope. Soon, the thought happily he would be watching his own child playing in the water, thanks to Taylor who was currently taking a nap upstairs. He started slightly as he felt a soft touch on his shoulder, without looking up he knew it was Brooke. She greeted him with a smile before seating herself on the lounger beside him. They made small talk about work for a while and laughed at the antics of the youngsters in the pool before drifting into a companionable silence. It never ceased to amaze him how easy it was to be with her, he had never dreamed when their marriage had ended that they could get to this state of comfort together. Taylor’s acceptance of their friendship helped as did Brooke’s care not to interfere or cause any waves between them. If sometimes he was physically more aware of Brooke than he should be, or caught himself reminiscing about the good times in their relationship, he put that down to the lack of physicality in his marriage to Taylor. That was no one’s fault he thought loyally, they were being careful for the baby’s sake, right now that seemed to be everyone’s focus as it should be. After about half an hour the kids began to tire and Pheobe and Rick took them upstairs to shower and dress leaving Brooke and Nick alone. As soon as the kids left Brooke made a move to follow them, smoothing her hands nervously down her skirt. “Where are you off to so quickly?” he asked as he sat up and turned to face her. “I should check on the kids and get them out of your hair.” “No rush, they’ll be a while in the bath, you know what RJ is like.” Brooke smiled at the truth of his words but Nick noted that she moved a couple of steps further away from him as he stood up and looked around uneasily. “Maybe you should check on Taylor.” “She’s napping.” Nick replied easily, before frowning at her continued unease. “What’s wrong?” “We’re alone down here.” Brooke replied as if that explained everything. When he raised a eyebrow in query she continued. “I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea, especially Taylor. You don’t know how much the trust both of you have had in me means, despite Stephanie’s continued meddling.” “How on earth could anyone get the wrong idea, we are both fully dressed and if you were standing any further away from me you’d be inside the house.” Brooke smiled at his teasing response, relaxing slightly as she realized the truth in his words. “I know my reputation Nick, according to Stephanie I could seduce you from over here without touching you.” He smiled reassuringly at her and responded in kind. “Despite what everyone thinks Brooke, you can’t seduce me if I don’t participate.” ‘Despite how much I want to participate…’ Nick thought to himself as he allowed his gaze to wander over her. ‘God I miss…NO’ he stopped his thoughts and looked away from her, up to the room where he knew Taylor slept. He loved his wife, she was carrying his child, he loved Taylor. Taking a deep breath he silenced his thoughts and started picking up the towels and pool toys scattered around. Brooke noticed that he had pulled away from her and she mentally shrugged of the brief flash of pain that it caused, this was the way it should be, he loved his wife. Taylor was giving him the child that he had wanted for so long, the child that she had been too selfish to give him. If only.. No those thoughts only led to heartache and she was trying to build a happier life for herself and her children, no point looking back to the past. “Hi Mommy” Brooke turned with a smile to watch Pheobe, her eldest son and two youngest children exit the house. “Hi, are we all bathed and squeaky clean?” She teased as she lightly took Rick’s face in her hand and made a show of checking him for cleanliness. Rick ducked away from his mother with a sheepish grin on his face. “God Mom, I’m all grown up now, no need to check behind my ears.” Brooke chuckled and patted him softly on the face. “You’ll always be my baby.” They all laughed at the absurdity of the comment as Brooke and Rick gathered up the younger children’s bags and prepared to leave.
From above Taylor watched, they looked like a family she admitted, all blonde and fair even Pheobe. But she had everything under control and her carefully planning would ensure that they would never be a family again. Taylor was not blind, she had seen the care that both Nick and Brooke took in making sure that their actions could not be misconstrued. But she had also seen what they did not, the longing in their eyes, the small touches that to others might look innocent, but to her were a warning to be ever vigilant.

Thanks, Norm! Great installment! Could you or anyone else explain why Taylor would knowingly marry someone but have to dissect and analyze every exchange he has with his ex? Pitiful! It's also ridiculous that Nick has to take extra pains to hold himself in check when he's around Brooke. Obviously, he wants to respect that thing he's married to, but if he has to go through all that, then it's not worth it. I loved the scenes with the kids by the pool and how much of a real family Bricky and the kids seem. BTW--is RJ a blonde in your story?

Thanks for the kind review. As for RJ having blonde hair in this story, he started out as a baby with blonde hair and they changed the little actor playing the part to one with dark hair. In my opinion this was done to link him with Ridge and I would not want to put any kids through that.

Brooke sat beside Bridget’s bed holding her hand and struggled to hold back tears as her daughter tossed fretfully and muttered under her breath. No matter how much Brooke denied it her eldest daughter was getting worse, despite Taylor’s best efforts and the care of the home nurse they had hired it seemed that Bridget was moving further into her psychosis. It appeared that all of the conflict and tragedy that Bridget had suffered over the years had finally caught up with her and Brooke did not see a way for her to return to the woman she had been before. Checking her watch she wondered where Taylor was, she had been like clockwork over the past few months to personally dispense Bridget’s daily medication, today for the first time she was two hours late. “Mom.” The soft query brought Brooke’s thoughts back to the present and she looked down to see Bridget’s eyes were open and maybe it was just wishful thinking, but she looked a little more coherent today. “Hi honey.” Brooke crooned softly as she stroked her daughter’s hair. “How are you feeling? You look better.” “Have I been sick?” Bridget whispered her eyes darting around the room in confusion “Sort of honey, you’ve had a bit of a hard time over the past several months.” Startled by her mothers words Bridget tried to push herself upright, before being gently pushed back down. “Months? What’s the date Mom?” “Honey…” Bridget interrupted her mother growing more distressed. “What’s the date Mom?” Brooke shook her head, maybe this was not the recovery she had been hoping for. “It’s February, sweetheart, you havn’t been yourself for 6 months, Taylor has had to medicate you heavily. You had a break down.” “Taylor! Has she had the baby Mom?” “Not yet honey, she’s due in about a month, now lie back and I will try giving her a call.” Brooke reached into her bag and pulled out her mobile phone, dialing quickly as she became more and more worried about Bridget’s agitation “No!” Brooke backed away from the bed as Bridget desperately tried to grab the phone. “Mom please..” she started shaking her head as she tried desperately to clear her foggy head. There was something that she had to tell her Mother something about Taylor. “I have to tell you something.” With a sigh of relief Brooke heard Nick’s voice on the other end of the phone. “Nick thank god, is Taylor there?” “She’s in labor, We’re just driving up to the hospital now.” “Oh Nick that’s wonderful.” “Is it important? she’s in a bit of pain at the moment.” “No, just enjoy the birth of your baby, I’ll talk to you soon.” Brooke hung up the phone and turned to face Bridget, now what was she going to do? “The Baby!” Yes that’s it Bridget thought, it has to do with the baby and the hospital, but what? “Nick and Taylor are on the way to the hospital, but we need to get someone over here with your medication…” “No Mom, you need to get to the hospital.” “Honey this is Nick and Taylor’s moment besides I can’t leave you here alone, the nurse is not due for another ½ hour.” Bridget wiped a weary hand over her eyes and tried to collect her scattered thoughts. Six months she had been like this according to her mother, why couldn’t she remember anything? What did she need to tell her mother? The baby, that’s right, something about the baby, her Mom should be with Nick and Taylor because… She sighed in frustration as she watched Brooke dial yet another number on her mobile phone. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes and tried to part the fog that seemed to enclose her memories like cotton wool. As she relaxed the fog parted and she began to recall a conversation with her brother. Rick: You didn't sleep last night? Bridget: No, I tried but I can't stop thinking. I just wonder if there was one Moment when I realized I was about to make a mistake. Rick: Bridget, you don't even know if there was a mistake made. And even if there was, it's not your mistake. Bridget: But it is, Rick. It was my idea that Mom's eggs be used for research. Rick: And maybe that's exactly what happened to them. Bridget: That's the problem. There's no way to know exactly what happened to those eggs. Oh my God. What if I'm right? What if the wrong eggs were fertilized? Do you realize Taylor could be carrying Mom and Nick's baby? My God, what have I done? Bridget sat up in bed as her memories came flooding back. The medications must be wearing off she realized in shock, the medications that Taylor had been administering, Taylor who had everything to gain from Bridget’s incapacitation and obviously nothing to lose. The realization that her idol had feet of clay was devastating, as was the realization that she had been stripped of all these months. “Mom wait I remember everything!”

OMG! This is getting soooooo good! Now, why Bridget is shocked that her idol has feet of clay is a mystery for the ages. And why would Brooke want Bridget back to being the woman she was? Oh, the horror! You know you can't stop here ... more please!

Brooke ran through the hospital corridors, her mind whirling with everything that Bridget had told her earlier. She wondered how on earth any of this could have happened, how Taylor could have ended up possibly pregnant with her child? As she neared the maternity ward she slowed slightly, what was she going to do when she got there? What was she going to say to Nick and Taylor and would they even believe her? If not for Rick confirming the tale that Bridget had relayed, Brooke was not sure she would have believed her daughter. The story sounded like the plot of a badly written soap opera for goodness sake. Rounding the final corner she was brought up short by the sight of a female Doctor flanked by two heavily built male orderlies standing guard in the waiting room. “Mrs Forrester?” “Brooke Logan.” She confirmed as she came to a stop in front of the trio and sarcastically quipped, “And you’re the welcoming committee?” “Dr Marsha Caron” the other woman offered coldly as she stepped towards Brooke. “I spoke to you on the phone earlier.” “And suggested that I not come into the hospital because there was no mix up.” Brooke interrupted, “I however chose to believe my daughter who was quite clearly concerned that their could be a question of who’s eggs where used.” “Ms Logan, as you know your daughter has been quite unwell for some months and we have, in the meantime, completed a thorough investigation..” “Really?” Brooke interrupted, “So thorough that I was not even told that there was a problem? Nor were the prospective parents of this child informed about the possibility of an error.” Dr Caron’s face reddened in anger at the accusation. “Mrs Taylor Marrone was notified about the investigation as a matter of principal and she was advised of the end result.” Brooke’s mouth dropped open in shock, “Taylor knew? She knew that there was a possibility that this was my child?” Brooke shook her head in denial, trying to get her mind around the fact that Taylor and Nick had kept a secret of this magnitude from her. What else had Taylor lied about? Brooke had cherished the friendship that she and Taylor had forged over the past months. She could not believe that she had trusted the other woman with Bridget’s mental well being, all those months that she had been medicating her, had it really been necessary? Was Taylor keeping Bridget sedated just to keep this mess a secret? Her scattered thoughts were interrupted as Dr Caron’s spoke again. “Ms Logan, the eggs used for the Marrone IVF procedure were not yours and even if they were yours, you signed over your rights to them, they belong to the hospital.” “I signed nothing Dr Caron.” Brooke stated flatly, watching as the Doctor signaled to the orderlies and they began to walk towards her. “And unless you want a media circus around this hospital that makes TomKats wedding look like a wake, you will tell these gentleman to back off.” The Doctor shook her head and the men stopped in their tracks. “What is it you want Ms Logan? I’ve already told you that we are certain that your eggs were not used.” “Well Dr Caron, shockingly enough I don’t believe you. I want a DNA test on the baby when it is born and I will be back with a lawyer to arrange for the return of my eggs.” “Brooke?” Looking past the Doctor, Brooke saw Nick standing by the door of the delivery suite dressed in green scrubs, she noted sadly that she hadn’t seen him this happy for a long time. “What are you doing here? Did you bring my mother in? We’re still in the early stages yet, nothing to report.” he said as he looked behind her searchingly. Brooke struggled to hold back the feelings of hurt and betrayal as she looked at him. “No Nick, I didn’t bring Jackie in, I’m here because Bridget woke up this morning, she was completely lucid and she told me everything..” Nick frowned in confusion and walked into the room towards the group gathered in the center of the waiting room. “Ok… It’s great that Bridget is better, but what do you mean she told you everything? Everything about what?” “You don’t have to lie to me anymore Nick, Bridget told me about the mix up with the donor eggs and mine. How could you not tell me?” Brooke’s voice broke on the last word and she swallowed before she continued. “How could you not tell me that this child could be ours, yours and mine?” Nick stared at her, mouth open and eyes wide with shock. As she looked into his ashen face she realized what she should have trusted from the start, Nick hadn’t known about any of this, Taylor had fooled them all.

You could have heard a pin drop in the waiting room, Nick sat with his head in his hands, Brooke sat beside him with a hand gently rubbing his back. Dr Caron and her orderlies had departed in a hurry, with a promise from the Doctor that Brooke’s demands would be met. Both of them looked up as the door to the waiting room flew open and Jackie bustled in followed shortly afterwards by Rick. “Nicky, what on earth is going on? Rick and I ran into each other in the lobby and he seemed to think there was some problem. Is there a problem with the baby? What is Brooke doing here?” Nick raised his head and put up his hand to halt his mothers flow of questions. “It’s a long story Mother, lets just say that there are no complications with the baby and I’ll let Brooke fill you in.” They all watched him stand and walk towards the delivery suite. “I need to go back in and support my Wife through the birth of our child.” The last comment was directed at Brooke and the sarcasm was not missed by any of them. No one spoke until the door closed behind Nick and then Jackie turned to Brooke, before she could speak Brooke began the difficult task of trying to explain. “I think you might need to sit down for this Jackie.” The older woman obeyed, settling in a chair opposite Brooke, Rick took the chair beside his Mother and put a reassuring hand on hers where it rested on her knee. “I don’t quite no where to begin, I only found out about this today myself, so bear with me.” Brooke took a calming breath before continuing. “Before Nick and Taylor started IVF, I decided to see if I was still capable of having a baby, I wanted to see if that was something I could offer Nick. I had some tests done and some eggs harvested and the tests were fine. When I found out that Nick and Taylor were committed to one another and that she was pregnant, Bridget and I decided that I should donate the eggs that I had harvested to the donor program and then to be honest with you I forgot all about it.” Jackie stayed silent, but acknowledged what she was saying with a reassuring smile, so Brooke continued. “Today when I was visiting Bridget, we were waiting for Taylor to give Bridget her medication and she was late, I know now that she was in labor of course. Bridget became more lucid and she told me something unbelievable.” “The Doctor that Mom called before she left to come here believes that the tablets that Bridget was taking had actually been doing more harm than good. I left Bridget with the nurse and came here to tell Mom.” “But Taylor was treating Bridget, are you saying that she made a mistake?” Jackie asked, her confusion written all over her face. “Yes a deliberate one.” Rick replied heatedly. “We don’t know that Rick.” His Mother chided him gently, still unwilling to believe that her friend would do something so cruel. “Anyway Bridget told me today that she had become aware of the possibility of an error.” Brooke deliberately emphasized the word possibility, looking at her son as she spoke. “They may have used my eggs when they did the IVF procedure for Nick and Taylor.” “So this child could be yours and Nicky’s.” Jackie queried, trying unsuccessfully to hide her pleasure at that possibility. “Yes, there was an inquiry and the hospital says that my eggs were not used, but I was not told about any of this and I have yet to see any evidence to the contrary. I’ve asked for a DNA test to be done when the baby is born and for my eggs to be found and accounted for.” “What an awful thing to happen, you must have been so shocked. Poor Taylor, what an awful thing to find out when you have just had a baby.” Jackie said sympathetically Rick snorted and rolled his eyes. “Please, Taylor knew the whole time, she and Budge both did. Nick and my Mother were kept in the dark.” He looked at Jackie as he continued. “So it is just a little convenient to me that Bridget has been overmedicated into a stupor and that the only reason this all came to light is that Taylor missed a dose because she was in labor. If not for that we may never have known.” “So you’re implying..” Jackie started “No I am saying that Taylor covered this up because she knew that this baby is my Mother and Nicks child and she knew what would happen when Nick found out. This is just another bond between the two of them and yet another reason for her to come second place to Mom in Nick’s heart.” For a moment there was silence in the room until the doors to the delivery suite opened and Nick burst through them, a broad smile across his face. “It’s a boy.” He announced happily. He looked at Brooke as she stood to greet him. “We have a beautiful baby boy.” Their eyes met across the room and Brooke repeated his words back to him in a soft whisper. “We have a beautiful baby boy.”

Slow day at work today.. Here's more..
Taylor lay back in the hospital bed, surrounded by flowers and cards and smiled complacently, she had done it, finally she had given Nick the one thing that would tie them together forever. She looked up as the door opened and Nick pushed in the mobile hospital cot carrying their son swaddled securely in a blue blanket. “There’s my boys. Is he ok?” “He’s fine, perfect in fact, they took some blood for the usual tests but he is fine.” Nick picked up the baby and walked around the bed, Taylor held out her arms for the child only to have Nick settle into the visitors chair cradling the baby gently. Taylor frowned, something was off here, Nick had not looked at her once since he had entered the room, all of his attention was centered on the baby. “What shall we name him? Any ideas?” For the first time he looked up at her, his gaze strangely distant, almost cold. “Dylan Jack” Nick replied firmly, looking back down at his son and smiling. “Oh ok” Taylor said hesitantly, neither name was one they had previously discussed. “Jack is nice, after my Dad, he’ll be thrilled.” Nick looked up at her again a faintly mocking look on his face. “I was thinking after my Mother actually, but after your Dad is fine as well, if that makes you happy.” Taylor composed herself trying not to allow the sarcasm in his tone affect her. “And Dylan? Where did you come up with that?” Nick traced the curve of the babies face as he replied softly. “It’s Welsh, I saw it in a baby name book, it means born of the ocean, or son of the sea.” “Ok, but we could have at least discussed this before you made a decision, he is our child, yours and mine.” Nick looked up at her and smirked as he put the sleeping baby back in the cot. “Is he really?’ “What do you mean by that?” Taylor was growing more and more uneasy at Nick’s attitude. “Well we should know the answer to that question in 5 to 7 days according to the Doctors, that’s how long it takes to get a DNA test.” “What? Why on earth would you do a DNA test? It will only show that you are the father and that the donor is the biological Mother.” Taylor asked, her voice trembling as she started to panic. “Exactly, but the question remains, as you well know, who was the Donor?” Taylor swallowed, trying to moisten her suddenly dry mouth. “Nick, I…” “You what Taylor? You’re sorry. You forgot to tell me? What?” “I didn’t think that you needed to worry about this. The hospital said that it wasn’t Brooke’s eggs that were used so why would I tell you?” “Gee, let me see, maybe because this was my child that we are talking about? Brooke and I deserved to know.” Taylor winced as Nick’s voice rose in anger and she could see him glancing over at the sleeping baby and trying to calm himself down. “I carried him for nine months.” She said trying desperately to regain some control of the situation. “He is my son.” “You carried him for eight months.” Nick clarified softly as he walked up to stand beside the bed. “And lied almost the whole time to protect yourself. Did you have so little faith in me that you thought you had to keep this from me? Not to mention what you did to poor Bridget.” Taylor paled, it had never occurred to her to question how he had come to know about the egg switch. Suddenly she realized that she had missed Bridget’s daily medication and exactly what that meant. “Dr Simmonds, I think you know him? He’s taken Bridget off all of the medication that you have been doping her up on and as far as I know, he’s reported you to the medical board, Dr Hayes. Brooke talked him out of calling the police, but we don’t know what Bridget will do when she’s better and thinking more clearly. You willfully took away months of her life, I think that is criminal.” Taylor stared at him in mute horror as the full implications of her actions hit her. Nick moved over to the crib and began to wheel it towards the door. “Take a long look at Dylan, this will be the last time you will ever see him.” “No!” Taylor cried out, her arms reaching towards him. “You can’t he’s my son! No matter what you say, legally he is my son.” “Maybe.” Nick admitted as he paused at the door. “We’ll see what the lawyers say when they get back to me on the divorce and custody arrangements I had them look into this morning. But morally, no matter what the DNA test’s say, you have no right to this child. I don’t want you any where near my son.” “Divorce! Custody! What are you talking about? What happens if the DNA test results come back and say that Brooke is not his mother? I have rights you know.” Nick shrugged as he opened the door. “Yes you do, but you had no regard for my rights, nor for Brooke’s, or for Bridget’s for that matter. No matter what the test’s say I can’t stay married to someone who could lie to me for so long about something so important. Nor can I let you have anything to do with this child, I can’t trust you, I’m not sure I ever could.” “I’ll fight this!!” Taylor yelled as she watched him walk out the door. “I won’t let you raise this child, my child, with Brooke!” Nick just walked out the door and did not look back as it closed behind him.

Not to be selfish or anything, Norm811, but you need to have more slow days at work! This was brilliant and I love that this house of cards fell in so quickly! So Taylor truly was an incubator, wasn't she? I'm glad that they're moving so quickly on having her license suspended; it should have been done a long time ago. I've always said that there's nothing more dangerous than a mental health provider with an agenda. I would love to see how this custody thing played out legally especially since Brooke seemingly relinquished her rights to her eggs after she found out about Nick and Taylor. I look forward to reading more! ;D

Sorry about the delay, End of financial year for me here in Oz, very busy at work. Part 7 Brooke stood in front of the nursery window and looked searchingly at the tiny baby wrapped in blue, as he lay sleeping peacefully in his bassinet. He was perfect, the only difference between him and the other babies was the slender tube that supplied extra oxygen to his underdeveloped lungs. She searched his face, trying to find a similarity in his features to hers, but all she saw was his father. Brooke was just as confused as she had been 48 hours ago, when Bridget had told her of the possibility of a mix up. She was still struggling to sort out her feelings about this child and Nick. After months of suppressing her feelings and enduring the pain of watching him go through the pregnancy with Taylor she was not sure now what she wanted. The past 2 days had stretched interminably awaiting the results of the DNA test and still there was still at least 3 more to go. After trying to be patient for the whole day yesterday she had finally given into her instincts and made her way here to the nursery. Nick had kept in contact with her, advising her of the state of the babies health and the status of Nick’s custody battle with Taylor but still she had felt the need to at come in and at least look at this tiny baby, who could be her son. “He’s perfect isn’t he?” Brooke turned her head to find Nick standing behind her, his eyes trained on his son, a besotted expression on his face. She smiled as she watched him falling in love with his son, no matter how the child had come into this world he had his Daddy wrapped around his tiny finger already. “Yes he is.” Brooke agreed softly. “So, Dylan Jack huh?” Nick faced her and smiled. “Yes, Mom is thrilled.” “I’m sure she is, but where did the name Dylan come from? I thought you might have called him Dominic.” Nick turned to face her and she was surprised to see a flash of sorrow on his face. “I still think of RJ as Dominic, I know he is Ridge’s son, but I feel like he was my son first, you know?” Brooke nodded sympathetically, “I can understand that I suppose.” “And Dylan? Well that means born of the ocean, son of the sea.” Brooke’s breath caught at his admission, she looked into his eyes and saw the memories reflected back at her. In her mind she heard his voice and remembered the words he had whispered to her so long ago, ‘You are the sea to me’. Brooke realized that no matter what the test results said, in Nick’s mind this baby was already hers. They stood for a moment, caught up with each other and their memories of better times, neither noticed the approach of a wheelchair until the noisy sound of a throat clearing broke the spell. They spun around to see Taylor seated in a chair, pushed by Stephanie. “Well if it isn’t the Witches of Eastwick, no brooms today ladies?” Nick drawled sarcastically as he stepped in front of Brooke protectively and faced the objects of his ire. “I am here to see my son.” Taylor snapped angrily. “I have every right to be here, unlike some people.” “What rights you have are yet to be determined, My Dear, and Brooke has as much reason to be here, if not more, than the person standing behind you.” “You… You…” Stephanie spluttered, her face incandescent with rage. “Don’t bother to finish your sentence, we will be leaving.” Nick interrupted as he reached behind him for Brooke’s hand. “Just remember, you can look at my son, but you can’t touch.” With that he proceeded to lead a bewildered Brooke quickly down the hall. Once out of sight of the nursery he slowed his pace and realized that the hand he held was shaking. He looked at Brooke and was surprised to see that instead of the tears he had expected that she was struggling to hold back laughter. Realising that Nick was confused, Brooke struggled to contain her mirth for a moment and then tried valiantly to explain. “Witches of Eastwick?” she giggled, “Brooms?” Nick grinned unrepentantly back at her. “Couldn’t help myself. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw them.” Brooke’s giggles became fully-fledged laughter as she leant up against the wall and wrapped her arms around her aching sides. Nick found her glee contagious and within seconds they were holding each other and laughing uproariously. The glare that they received from a passing Nurse only made it worse and they staggered down the hall to the elevator. Taking a deep breath as they stepped into the elevator Nick calmed himself enough to speak. “So have you got plans for the rest of the day?” “No. Not really.” “How would you feel about a picnic? It’s a beautiful day and I’d really like to see Hope and RJ, we could go to the park? Maybe we could pick up Bridget as well, a bit of fresh air might do her the world of good.” The happy smile on Brooke’s face as she nodded was the only answer he needed and he realized as he stood beside her in the descending elevator that he had not felt this kind of happiness for over a year. He did not know what was going to happen in the future, but right now, being here with Brooke felt more right that anything had for a long time. He felt complete, he felt whole again. Meanwhile outside the Nursery, Taylor and Stephanie stood in silent contemplation as they looked over at the baby swaddled in the bassinet. “I won’t let her take another thing from me Stephanie, she’s taken my medical license and my husband. I won’t let her take my baby.” Taylor vowed. Stephanie patted the younger woman’s shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry Taylor, you know that I would do anything to make sure that Bitch does not get her hands on my son or yours.”
