Brooke woke up refreshed. She had slept better than she had in ages. Maybe it was her new found freedom from Ridge, or her renewed hope in a resolution with Nick. Whatever it was, she felt more free and alive than she had in along time.
Brooke had broken the news to Bridget, Rick and her parents over breakfast. There would be no wedding to Ridge. Everyone seemed relieved. It was if everyone knew that it wasn't right, but no one wanted to be the one to stop it.
Brooke decided to resign from Forrester Originals. Not just for Nick's sake, but herself as well. Nick was right. If she continued on with a relationship with the Forresters, how would be ever be able to rid herself of her obsession with Ridge. Brooke was determined to change her life. She wasn't exactly sure how, but felt that this was the first step in the right direction. Brooke wasn't sure how to break the news to Eric. She didn't want to hurt him, but she was determined. Brooke took a deep breath, and pulled out of her driveway.

Rick was spending some time with his niece and nephew. Bridget had another 12 hour shift at work. Beth was able to convince Stephen to take a break from everything, and prepare to tell the family about their divorce. He decided to take a walk on the beach. Beth wanted to tell everyone after dinner tonight. She was so stressed right now. She was on her way to meet Lindsay. Eric had made all the arrangements.
Eric and Lindsay were waiting on Suzi and Peter to arrive. Lindsay was pacing and wringing her hands. Eric gave her a hug, and told her not to fret. He stroked her faced and assured her that everything would be okay.
Peter and Suzi arrived, and had drawn Lindsay's blood. All they needed was a sample from Beth, and everything would be neat and tidy. A couple of day's wait, and Lindsay would have her answers.
Are you sure you gave her the right hotel, asked Peter of Eric?
Yes...I even drew her a map. I spoke to her this morning, states Eric. She was going to take a cab here.
She doesn't want to meet me, stated Lindsay.
No..no that's not true, says Eric, trying to calm down Lindsay.
She might have been held up somewhere. Let's give her some more time.
Peter was worried. He'd seen this type of thing happen before. One or more of the parties got cold feet, and backed out at the last minute. Either because of fear, or not wanting to hurt their family.

Across town, the ambulance raced to the hospital. The women has extensive head wounds and her blood pressure was dropping at a dangerous pace. They had called ahead and informed the hospital that a middle aged women was unconscious and was in critical condition. Bridget knew the drill. She had her team ready.
Bridge had extensive training. She was always prepared in an emergency. Her staff had so much experience and were top notch. Bridget was not prepared however; when she was the face of the patient they had just wheeled in.
OMG....grandmother. What's her condition, asked Bridget frantically?
Her blood pressure is dropping, it's 60 over 45. Her pulse is erratic and she has extensive head wounds. She's unresponsive. The EMT rattled off the vital statistics as Bridget helped push the patient into the nearest room.
We have administered the saline solution via IV. The patient was involved in a head on car crash. The driver was DOA.
Bridget barked out orders. We'll need the portable MRI to check for internal bleeding and her head wounds. Contact surgery and let them know we have a patient that might need to be rushed in stat.
Bridget's heart was racing. She ran out in the hall and grabbed the first doctor she could find. Please, Dr. Andrews. They just brought my Grandmother in. She's in critical condition. Dr. Andrews knew that Bridget was a good doctor, but she wasn't as experienced as he was. He was a 20 year veteran, and Emergency Medicine was his specialty. He also knew that Bridget was in no condition to treat her own flesh and blood.
Bridget, stay out here, said Dr. Andrews.
But I want to help, cried Bridget.
You'll be no good to me in there, stated Dr. Andrew's firmly. You need to contract your family.
Bridget knew that Dr. Andrews was correct. She ran to the phones and started to call everyone.
_____________________________
Storm was the first to arrive. He ran to meet Bridget.
OMG...what's happened, said Storm frantically.
Grandma was in a car accident uncle Storm. Bridget had been crying and was badly shaken.
What are the doctor's saying, asked Storm.
They haven't come out to tell me anything Storm, said Bridget. But it's bad Storm. Her head wounds are serious.
Brooke came in next. Bridget has reached her on her cell phone. She was horrified when Bridget told her the news.
They all held each other and started to pray.
Bridget had called Rick, but he decided to stay with the kids. When Grandpa Stephen had come home, Rick relaid the horrible news. Stephen hurried to the hospital. He loved Beth, and even though they were going their separate ways, he was heartbroken that something had happened to Beth.
Stephen arrived just as Dr. Andrews was coming out to talk to the family.
Everyone clammored to ask the doctors questions.
How is she Dr. Andrews, asked Bridget?
Your Grandmother is in critical condition Bridget, said Dr. Andrews. She doesn't have any internal injuries, but has some extensive bruising of her organs. Her head injuries are massive. She's in a coma. Her vitals have stabilized, but the next 24 hours are critical.
Brooke gasped, and Storm caught her as she nearly collapsed.
Can we see her, asked Stephen
Yes...a couple at a time, said Dr. Andrews.
The men let the women go in first.
Beth was covered in bandages and had wires coming attached everywhere. Tubes were coming out of every available vein in her body.
Oh mommy, cried Brooke. She reached out gently and touched her mother's face.
Bridget was on the other side of the bed. Ever the doctor, she read all the stats on the equipment, and reached for the clipboard at the end of the bed.
Is she in any pain, asked a sobbing Brooke to Bridget?
No mom, stated Bridget. I don't think she is. We're never sure what a patient feels while they are in a coma. Bridget was trying to reassure herself, as well as her mother.
I'm going to go get Grandpa, said Bridget.
Stephen came in, and broke down and cried. Brooke tried to console him, but he sobbed uncontrollably.
Storm came in and Brooke excused herself.
_________________________
Eric was frantic. This just isn't like Beth, stated Eric.
Lindsay was staring out the window. She had a bad feeling.
Something's wrong, stated Lindsay to Eric.
Peter and Suzi had left. It had been hours, and Suzi had to get back to the lab.
I'm going to go see if she is at her daughter's house, said Eric.
Brooke's, asked Lindsay?
Yes, said Eric. Maybe she did get cold feet. This was suppose to be Brooke's wedding day to Ridge. Maybe she needed to console Brooke?
Lindsay felt selfish. Eric had told her what happened with the wedding. Lindsay was so excited about meeting Beth, that she hadn't considered that Beth had another daughter that needed her.

Dante was feeling really good about himself. He had a really nice dinner with Bridget last night, and had talked her in to taking off of work early that afternoon for a picnic on the beach with Dominick. He knew how much she loved that boy, and smiled at the thought as he made his way through the hospital parking lot to park his car.
Dante could tell that something was wrong immediately when he saw all of Bridget's family in the waiting area of the ER.
OMG Dante...said Bridget. I forgot about our lunch date.
What's wrong, asked a concerned Dante?
He handed Dominick over to Bridget as he walked towards Brooke.
Hello Dante, said Brooke through her tears.
He hugged her and said hello back to her.
Grandmother's been in a horrible accident, stated Bridget. Dominick was squirming in her arms, and there was a brief smile out of Brooke's face when she saw him.
Your son is beautiful, said Brooke to Dante.
Thank you Brooke, said Dante. I'm sorry about your mother. Is there anything I can do?
Pray, said Storm, as he came out of his mother's room.
I'm going to go in and relieve dad for a while, said Brooke.
Look Bridget, anything you need. Please call, said Dante. He felt so bad for Bridget and her family.
I will Dante, said Bridget. She was glad that he was here.
Dante said his goodbyes, and told Bridget he would call.

Rick had just put the kids down for a nap when Eric got there.
Hi Dad....Rick said, with a sad tone.
Where's everyone at, asked Eric. Is your grandmother here?
What's the matter son, asked Eric.
You haven't heard about Grandma, asked Rick?
Beth....what's wrong, asked an alarmed Eric?
She's been in a horrible car accident. She's over at Memorial.
I'm on my way son.
Call me with some news, said a worried Rick.
Eric ran out, and Rick thought it odd that Eric had come over and asked for his grandmother. He brushed it off remembering that they are old friends.

Nick was sitting at his desk at Forrester Creations. He had a cigar in his mouth, and his feet up on his desk. He was sitting facing the window, and didn't see his mother come in.
Nick, I can see the filthy smoke coming from that cigar, said Jackie. Jackie couldn't wait to see if anything had happened between Brooke and Nick.
Nick turned and smiled from ear to ear.
Hello mother, said Nick.
Jackie's mouth dropped in shock at his demeanor. Nick hasn't been happy for months, and she couldn't remember the last time she saw him smile like that.
Nick put out his cigar and grabbed his mother and hugged her. As he hugged her he twirled her around. Jackie squealed with delight and demanded he put her down.
Well, said Jackie. What in the world has made you happy again, and thank who or whatever is was for me?
Can't a guy be happy to see his beautiful mother, grinned Nick.
Jackie was suspicious.
Oh stop it mother, said Nick. He knew that look she was giving him.
Could this new found happiness be the news that a Ms. Brooke Logan is not getting married today, asked Jackie?
And how did you come to find this little tid bit out mother, asked Nick?
Jackie handed Nick a newspaper turned to an article in the gossip section.
It's the lead story, my wonderful son, Jackie said as she pinched Nick's cheeks.
Ouch, cried Nick. I hate it when you do that!
Jackie laughed.
So, are you going to answer me Nick, asked Jackie?
What, said Nick, trying to act like he had no idea what she was talking about?
I know you son, said Jackie. You are as thrilled as I am with the news Jackie said with a purr.
Yeah, said Nick, pacing the floor. I'm happy, for Brooke's sake. I hope she has wised up where the Dress Maker and his mother are concerned snapped Nick as he threw down the newspaper.
Jackie didn't want to let out about her little secret meeting she had with Brooke the day before.
Soooooo, what are you going to do about it, asked Jackie?
What do you mean, asked Nick?
Go to her, said Jackie exclaimed.
Nope....I'm not gonna, said a defiant Nick. Besides, I already knew about it.
You knew, asked a surprised Jackie. but how? Jackie now assumed that Brooke had gone to talk to Nick.
Brooke came to see me last night at the Marlin, informed Nick.
That's wonderful Nicky, said Jackie gleefully. She put her hands together and had a huge smile on her face.
Don't get too far ahead of yourself mother. We're not picking out flowers or rings quite yet, stated Nick. He knew exactly where his mother was going.
What happened, asked a nosey Jackie? I want all the wonderful details.
We just talked, explained Nick. We hashed out a lot of things last night. But nothing is resolved, at least not completely.
Ah Nicky, exclaimed Jackie. I'm so happy for you. She put his face in her hands and kissed his cheek.
Look Ma, said Nick. Don't go getting your knickers in a twist. I'm not making my move until I know for sure she's got that Dress Maker out of her system.
But you still love her Nicky, said Jackie softly.
You know I do mom.....but I'm not opening my heart to get it crushed again. No sir reeeee....I've got my guard up where Ms. Brooke Logan is concerned. With that he lit up his cigar again.
Well, at least keep your heart open enough for the possibility of a reconciliation, pleaded Jackie.
Nick just winked at his mother as she walked out the door.
He knew his mother loved Brooke, perhaps as much as he did. But it wasn't her heart that was continually stomped on by her Ridge Obsession.
Nick was going to play this cool. He wasn't going to go running to Brooke the next time she was in trouble, or needed him. She'd have to come to him, he thought to himself. ______________________________

Stephanie walked past Ridge's office and through the crack in the door, could see that he was sitting at his desk, looking a million miles away.
Ridge, said Stephanie, as she opened the door. Can I break your thoughts for a minute?
Yeah, sure...hi mother. Ridge didn't get up. He was in a sour mood, and really wasn't looking forward to the usual game of 50 Questions that his mother put him through.
Well that's a fine way to great your mother, Stephanie said in a snarky manner.
Look mother, If you don't mind, I have a lot of work to do, said Ridge.
Ridge honey...it doesn't look like you are working to me, said Stephanie. She saw the newspaper opened to the article about his and Brooke's wedding being cancelled.
Stephanie picked up the newspaper and threw it in the trash can. Ridge...see how easy that was, said Stephanie. No more worries. She's gone.
Moooooooother, whined Ridge.
Pick yourself up and do something with yourself, said Stephanie in a demanding tone.
Go out, find a beautiful women and take her to dinner. Go to a play, out to a movie. Sitting here in this office isn't going to help, said Stephanie.
I don't know of any women to take out, said Ridge. He definitely was feeling sorry for himself. All the women that he had known over the years he had treated so badly, that not many wanted anything to do with him.
What about Taylor, asked Stephanie.
Don't go playing match maker mother, said Ridge in an almost cruel tone. I'm sick of you running my love life.
Stephanie wasn't going to be deterred. She ignored her son's pleas as usual, and kept on.
Look Ridge....Taylor is sitting at home alone, said Stephanie. She's single, beautiful, and the mother of your children. Ask her to dinner again. Didn't you have a great time the other night?
For your information, replied Ridge, I went over to Taylor's last night and we had dinner. We talked, and I just don't think that Taylor is all that interested in me.
Maybe Taylor is just scared to take a chance with you again, said Stephanie?
Thanks Stephanie, but I'll decide what chances I'll take, replied Taylor.
TAYLOR...cried Stephanie with glee. What are you doing here?
Well, I was thinking about asking Ridge if he wanted to grab a bite to eat or catch a movie, Taylor said...looking hopefully at Ridge.
Stephanie turned and saw Ridge jump out of his chair and grab his jacket.
I'd be delighted, said Ridge. He kissed his mother on the cheek and whisked Taylor out the door, leaving Stephanie standing there with a surprised look on her face.
___________________________
You don't have to go to dinner or the movies if you don't want to, Taylor said to Ridge as they were going down the elevator.
No....I do. I want to thank you too for rescuing me from my mother, laughed Ridge. She drives me insane sometimes.
I know, laughed Taylor. But she does love you and just wants you to be happy.
Ridge just rolled his eyes at that thought.

Eric was in a panic. He raced through the streets of LA to get to the hospital.
He ran up to the front desk in the ER and was barely coherent asking for Beth and Brooke and the Logans.
Brooke heard him, and came to get him.
Eric...Eric, it's okay, we're over here, said Brooke.
Brooke...oh God Brooke. Your mother, cried Eric.
Dad, cried Bridget. She leaped into his arms and he hugged her tight.
How's Beth, asked Eric of Brooke.
No change, said Brooke sadly. She's still in a coma, which the doctor's have no idea when she'll come out of. Her injuries are severe. Brooke started to cry and Eric didn't press her for more details.
He held Brooke and tried to sooth her.
May I go see her, asked Eric?
Sure Eric, said Brooke. I'll take you in.
Brooke led Eric into Beth's room.
Eric gasped when he saw her laying so still and with all the wires and bandages, he started to weep.
Stephen excused himself after thanking Eric for coming, and Brooke and Eric stood and watched Beth.
Oh my God Eric, what are we going to do, cried Brooke?
Eric grabbed Brooke's hand and squeezed tightly. He had no idea how he was going to tell Lindsay about her mother.
___________________
Lindsay was a mess. She practically wore a hole through the carpet from pacing so much. She felt a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. The same kind of feeling she had of dread right before she found out about her parent's accident.
Please call Eric, Lindsay pleaded.
___________________________
It was around Midnight when Eric came knocking on Lindsay's door. She had managed to finally fall asleep, so the knock had startled her.
Who is it, asled Lindsay at the door?
It's Eric.
Thank God, Lindsay said as she quickly opened the door.
But when she saw Eric, he was a mess. His eyes were red and swollen.
What has happened, asked a concerned Lindsay?
Eric was barely able to eek out any words.
I'm so sorry Lindsay, said Eric.
Your mother,....Beth, was in a horrible car accident.
Lindsay gasped and felt weak and Eric caught her.
Is she dead, asked a mortified Lindsay?
No...no, but she's in critical condition.
I want to go see her, cried Lindsay. Tears were welling up in her eyes.
I haven't told anyone about you yet Lindsay, said Eric.
I don't care, cried Lindsay. What if this is my only chance?
Alright, said Eric. I'll take you to her.
Eric had no idea what he was going to say if anyone questioned who Lindsay was. He didn't really care at this point.
I'd better call Stephanie and let her know where I am said Eric. His thoughts were so engrossed in Beth that he hadn't bothered to inform Stephanie.
Stephanie,...it's Eric.
Well it's about damn time, said Stephanie, angrily.
I'm sorry, Stephanie. Look, there's been a horrible accident.
What, asked Stephanie? Who...what has happened?
Beth Logan was in a horrible car accident today. I'm at the hospital, Eric lied.
Oh my God, said Stephanie.
Well, yes...said Stephanie, Bridget and Rick will need your support. How bad is she Eric?
Not good. She's in a coma. She's in critical condition, said Eric sadly.
Well, alright then, please keep me informed, said a semi-concerned Stephanie.
I will, said Eric.
Stephanie hung up the phone. She didn't like Beth Logan, and sometimes even hated her. But she would never wish any harm to come to her. Poor Brooke she thought, snickering. She lost Ridge, and now may lose her mother. But that was the extent of Stephanie's concern for Brooke. She rolled back over in bed and went back to sleep.

Everyone was gone except Brooke. Brooke was asleep when Eric snuck Lindsay in Beth's room. Bridget had gone home, and Stephen went to go relieve Rick. Storm had a big case the next day, and had to finish up some work.
We can't wake up Brooke, said Eric. They slowly walked over to Beth's side, and Lindsay looked down at her mother. She looked over at Brooke, and thought she looked like a angel. Lindsay stared in amazement at the women who had given her birth. She felt a warmth flood over her, and felt at peace. ____________________ When Ridge walked into Beth's room, he saw that Brooke was asleep lying on Beth, holding her hand. Stephanie had informed him of Beth's demise this morning, and he came over as soon as he found out.
Brooke....Brooke, said Ridge softly as he tried to wake her.
Ridge?.....questioned a groggy Brooke.
Yes Logan...it's me.
Brooke rubbed her eyes, and tried to shake the sleep off.
Oh God Ridge...it's awful cried Brooke.
Ridge gave Brooke a hug and looked over his shoulder at Brooke's mother.
I'm sorry Brooke. Is there anything I can do, asked Ridge?
Just pray Ridge, pleaded Brooke.
Do you need something to eat or some coffee asked Ridge?
Brooke hadn't eating since the morning before. She was hungry, but didn't want to leave her mother's side.
Would you mind getting me something to eat? And a cup of coffee sounds nice, said Brooke.
I'll be right back, said Ridge.
Brooke thought it was nice of Ridge to come, considering.
Brooke looked down at her mother. Brooke grabbed her mother's hand and looked up towards the heavens. Please God.....please help my mother, pleaded Brooke. I can't lose her. Brooke spent half the night praying at her mother's bedside. Her father had been there too. But he seemed aloof. Not that he wasn't sad or concerned. He just seemed distant, thought Brooke.
____________________
Where are you headed off to so early, asked Stephanie?
I'm going over to the hospital to check on Beth....and the kids, replied Eric.
I told Ridge about Beth, informed Stephanie.
Good, that was nice of you Eric said to Stephanie. He couldn't help but wonder if she was really concerned.
How is Brooke holding up, Stephanie said slightly sarcastic.
How do you THINK she's holding up, Eric snapped back. I'm sorry, I'm just tired he told Stephanie.
What time did you come to bed this morning, asked Stephanie?
About 3:00 am, said Eric. He didn't bother to put on a tie. He didn't have the patience to tie one this morning.
Eric has only dared spend a few minutes with Lindsay at the hospital. He didn't want to add to Brooke's stress. He didn't know what he would do now that Beth was in the hospital.
After he drove Lindsay home, he went to his house, and sat up and thought about all that had transpired in the last week. When he finally crawled into bed, he was thoroughly exhausted.
___________
Rick had gotten to the hospital during the wee hours of the morning. He didn't have the heart to wake his mother. He had talked to the nurses, and nothing had changed with his Grandmother. He had gone for a breath of fresh air, so he missed Ridge's entrance.
But he saw Ridge now, waltzing up the hallway, holding some coffee and snacks.
My mother's not hungry or thirsty. And if she was, she doesn't need anything from you, said Rick quite loudly.
Rick got in front of Beth's doorway, so that Ridge couldn't enter.
Move out of the way, said Ridge.
No. You need to leave. My mother doesn't want you here, said Rick defiantly.
Your mother needs my help, said Ridge....who by now was rather perturbed with Rick.
My mother doesn't need your kind of help, declared Rick. Take your crap, and leave.
By this time Brooke has heard the conversation, and came out to see what was going on.
Rick...Ridge...stop it, said Brooke sternly.
It's okay Rick. I'm glad Ridge is here, said Brooke softly to her protective son.
That's okay Logan. I'll leave. I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you, and that I care, said Ridge, as he glared at Rick.
Okay Ridge. Thank you for coming, said an appreciative Brooke. I'll walk out with you.
Rick couldn't hide his disdain for Ridge. He couldn't for the life of him figure out why his mother couldn't see what a toxic man he was.
Ridge hugged Brooke and they said their farewells.
Brooke walked back up to Rick and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Thanks for being my protector honey, said Brooke to Rick. But I can handle Ridge.
Come on honey, said Brooke, and she led Rick into Beth's room. _______________________________

Eric had called Peter and let him know what had happened to Beth. Peter had seen the accident on the news, but never put two and two together, as no names were mentioned. Peter said to keep him posted. Peter felt bad for Lindsay.
I'm so glad you decided to come and eat something, said Peter to Lindsay. She was picking at her grilled chicken salad. She didn't' have much of an appetite, but was growing restless sitting in the hotel room.
So everything is good back in Phoenix, asked Peter, trying to open up some conversation?
Yeah...I have my lap top, and Lisa sends me emails to keep me up-to-date, replied Lindsay.
And....your mother - Beth, how is she, asked Peter.
Eric stopped by this morning on the way to the hospital. Nothings changed, said Lindsay sadly.
I went to see her last night, proclaimed Lindsay.
How, asked a stunned Peter?
Eric took me, in the middle of the night, explained Lindsay. I felt so bad for Brooke.
Brooke is Beth's daughter, right, asked Peter.
Yeah. She was laying there like an angel, holding her mother's hand. We were careful not to disturb them, said Lindsay.
Peter felt so bad for Lindsay. She had found her mother and father, and now tragedy has struck again.

Nick walked into Chuck's, and couldn't help but notice the same beautiful stranger sitting at the same booth with that same man from a week ago.
He sat down at the bar, and asked the bartender if he knew who she was.
Nope, said the bartender.
How about the man, asked Nick?
That's Peter Howarth, said the bartender.
What's his story, asked Nick?
He's a private eye. Usually a loner. He comes in here all the time, but I ain't never seen him with a beautiful dame like that, added the bartender.
A private detective you say, questioned Nick?
Now his curiosity was really peaked. Who the hell was this women, asked Nick to himself?

Bridget was on a much needed day off from work. She had been to the hospital to visit her Grandmother, and there was no change. Dante wanted to come over and bring Dominick, so she needed to do some cleaning. Everything looked great, and she went out onto the porch. She sat in the swing and let her thoughts drift away.
She thought about her dinner with Dante the other evening. She laughed to herself. Dante wasn't shy, and he never hid his feelings from her. He let her know that he wanted her back. She knew that Nick would never lover her like she deserved, and she was resigned to the fact that somehow or someway, her mother and Nick would find their way back to each other. She had never given Dante a chance because she was so wrapped up in her feelings for Nick. Dante was a good man, and he was very good looking, and very good in the sack. She blushed thinking of Dante like that. Just then, Dante's car pulled up, and she jumped up to greet him.
Dante was all smiles, and he carefully pulled Dominick from his car seat.
There's Auntie Bridget, Dante pointed.
Hi guys, said Bridget.
Bridget grabbed Dominick from Dante's arms, played with him in the yard.
How's your Grandmother, asked Dante.
No changes the last I knew. I stopped in and spent some time with her this morning, said Bridget.
How's your mom holding up, asked Dante.
Not good....not good at all, said Bridget.
They took Dominick down to the beach, and they played for what seemed like hours.
Dante and Bridget talked, but her heart wasn't in it.
I'm sorry, said Bridget. I'm not very good company today.
That's okay, said Dante.
I really need to go to the hospital and see how my mom and Grandmother are, explained Bridget.
Keep me posted, okay Bridget, said Dante.
As they drove off, Bridget couldn't help but think about how nice it was to have Dante around. She really loved Dominick, and cherished spending time with him. Her thoughts drifted off to Nicole, and the baby she and Dante lost. She let out a big sigh, and grabbed her purse and keys.

Brooke needed a shower. She had her cell phone on her, and informed the nurses to call her if there was any change with her mother. Storm was there, as well as her father Stephen.
Brooke couldn't shake the feeling she had that something was just not right with her father. In fact, her mother had acted somewhat strange when they were showed up at her house.
As Brooke got dressed, she was thinking that her parents were acting weird because of the wedding to Ridge, and then the wedding being cancelled. And then there was that speech that Beth gave her the other night about Ridge and Nick.

Rick was determined that his mother was going to get Ridge out of her life. He really liked Nick, and thought that he was so much better for his mother.
Rick was buzzed into Nick's office, and was welcomed by Nick.
Hey, what brings you to my neck of the woods, asked a delighted Nick? He also really liked Rick. He was warm and had many of Brooke's admirable qualities.
Rick shook Nick's hand. I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news my friend.
Bad news...what bad news, Nick asked.
You haven't heard, asked Rick?
Heard what, asked Nick?
My grandmother, Brooke's mom Beth, was in a horrible car accident yesterday morning.
Oh my God. No, I went fishing with a pal down the shore, and just got back, explained Nick. A buddy had called and wanted to go fishing. Nick couldn't say no. He took a couple day's off and needed the diversion.
Yeah, she's at Memorial, said Rick.
Oh man, I'm so sorry. Please, let your mother know I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
She needs you Nick, said Rick.
Nick looked up at Rick, and knew where this was going.
Look Rick. I love your mother. But your mother and I talked, and we kind of agreed that for the time being, we would see each other from time to time and see how things go. But I made up my mind; I'm not going to play her knight in shining armor, unless she calls me.
Ridge was there, proclaimed Rick.
Where, asked an alarmed Nick? Rick knew how to get to Nick.
At the hospital, this morning, said Rick.
DAMMIT, yelled Nick. Two days. Two days and already she's calling him and asking for his help.
She didn't call him Nick, explained Rick. Ridge just showed up.
And that makes it better, asked an exasperated Nick?
Yes, it means that my mother didn't run crying to Ridge when she needed someone, stated Rick.
But she didn't call me, now did she, asked Nick sarcastically?
It all happened so fast, replied Rick. Look, Nick. Mom is hurting and scared. My Grandmother might not make it. Mom needs you now more than ever. Do what you want. It's your call. But if I were you, I'd go to my mother. Rick was done pleading with Nick. He walked out, but hoped that he had gotten through to Nick. JACKIE...Rick thought. I'll go talk to Jackie.
DAMMIT...yelled Nick again. Nick picked up his cell phone. He hadn't taken it with him fishing. You never could get a signal out there anyways. He noticed that there was a message waiting for him. He listened, and he sat down as he heard Brooke's faint and quivering voice leaving a message about her mother.
Oh my God, said Nick. She had called. He jumped up and grabbed his jacket. __________________________

Brooke returned to the hospital. Stephen was in with Beth. Storm left to go get a shower. Bridget was holding vigil outside Beth's room. Brooke saw her daughter sitting there. She looked so sweet thought Brooke.
Hi honey, said Brooke as she hugged her daughter.
Hi mom, said Bridget as she hugged her daughter back.
Any change, asked Brooke.
No - nothing said Bridget.
I'm going to go to the chapel, said Brooke.
Okay mom, said Bridget.
Come and get me if anything happens, requested Brooke.
I will mom......said Bridget sadly.
No change in Beth. It had been 48 hours.....but at least Beth was hanging in there. And she was breathing okay. Her foot moved when the doctors applied small amounts of pain. So her reflexes were good. But Bridget didn't like the coma her Grandmother was in.
Bridget looked up and saw Nick walking towards her.
Oh God Bridget, I just heard....I'm so sorry said Nick. He gave Bridget a hug and asked where Brooke was. How's your Grandmother?
No change with Grandma. Mom's down at the chapel.
Nick started to walk away and Bridget stopped him.
Nick....thanks for coming. Mom needs you, said Bridget.
Nick just nodded at Bridget, and walked to the chapel to find Brooke.
Nick looked through the window, and saw several people sitting in various pews. Then he saw Brooke, kneeling up front. He sat down beside her and didn't speak. He looked over at Brooke and her eyes were closed. Her hands were clasped together in prayer. Nick never thought she looked more beautiful.
After a few minutes, Brooke opened her eyes, and slid back into the pew.
Thank you for coming, Brooke said to Nick in almost a whisper.
Nick didn't say anything, but grabbed a hold of Brooke's hand and held it tight, giving it a squeeze every now and then. They sat there together in silence for the longest time.
Just then, the silence was broken as Bridget came in and knelt down beside her mother.
What is it Bridget, asked Brooke?
Mom, Bridget whispered, come quick. It's Grandma. She's waking up.
They all hurried out of the chapel and almost ran to Beth's bedside.
Brooke and Bridget went in, as Nick stood outside the door.
What's happening, asked Brooke excitedly?
A nurse was examining Beth and Bridget informed her mother that a doctor had been called and was on his way.
She's somewhat responsive, Ms. Logan, stated the nurse.
She's trying to speak said Stephen. She's mumbling something, but I can't make it out.
She's still very very weak, the nurse said to Stephen. Give her some time. The medication she is on could be affecting her. Maybe the doctor will order something lighter for her. It all depends on her pain level. Give her some rest please folks. She could come in and out of consciousness for hours.
Just then Dr. Andrews appeared and asked the nurse to clear the room. Get the portable MRI unit down here too, he ordered. I want to see what is going on with Mrs. Logan's brain.
Brooke, Bridget and Stephen walked out, and Nick greeted them all.
What's going on, asked Nick? He grabbed a hold of Brooke and they stared deeply into each other's eyes.
Brooke and Nick walked over to the chairs and sat down. Bridget kept vigil at the door and began to pace.
I think my mom is going to be alright, said a happy Brooke. Tears were rolling down her eyes and Nick felt so bad that this was all happening to Brooke's family.
What has happened, asked Nick.
Mom is starting to wake up, explained Brooke.
Isn't that wonderful, said Brooke.
Yes ...yes it is, said Nick as he hugged her.
I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner, stated Nick. I went fishing with one of my buddies, and I didn't know.
You didn't get my message, asked Brooke?
No...not until a little while ago, said Nick. I didn't take my cell phone with me because there aren't any towers and the reception stinks.
and Rick came by...said Nick.
Rick, asked Brooke, surprised.
He loves you Brooke, and he wanted to make sure I knew.
Well, you're here now, and that's all that's important, said Brooke.
Rick walked down the hallway towards Brooke and Nick. He greeted his sister and then sat down by his mom.
Hi honey, said Brooke.
Rick winked at Nick as he gave his mother a hug.
Dad's on his way, informed Rick.
Good, said Brooke.
Finally Dr. Andrews came out and spoke to Beth's family.
Well, I do have some good news, stated Dr. Andrews. I don't know how, but your mother is coming out of the coma and has made remarkable progress. He saw the pain in Brooke's face, but also saw the love and concern for her mother. He was taken back at the beauty that poured out of her eyes. Her vital's have improved greatly, and we have taken her off oxygen. Time is what we are dealing with now.
Your mother is very lucky, stated Dr. Andrews. To have such a loving family surrounding her. He was talking to the whole family, but looking directly at Brooke.
Nick noticed that Dr. Andrews was entranced by Brooke. He spoke up....that's wonderful news Dr.
Nick could feel jealousy pangs slamming into his brain. He dismissed them, as he thought that every one would be entranced with Brooke's beauty.
Bridget had a million questions for Dr. Andrews, so he walked off with her in tow, and tried to answer all of them.
I want to go see my mom, said Brooke to Nick.
I'll go with you mom, said Rick.
Nick and Stephen stood outside Beth's room and they both sized each other up.
So....you still love my daughter, asked Stephen to Nick?
Nick wanted to choose his words carefully.
I still care very deeply for Brooke, stated Nick.
I just don't want to see my daughter hurt anymore, declared Stephen.
Neither did Nick.
With that Stephen walked down the hallway.
Nick saw a nurse go in Beth's room, and Brooke and Rick walk out.
The nurse is changing mom's bandages, explained Brooke.
Mom...I'm gonna go take a walk and make a few phone calls, said Rick.
Brooke turned to Nick and told him how her mother was beginning to speak.
It's the strangest thing, said Brooke. My mother was mumbling her words, and then all of a sudden, as clear as a bell, she said the name Lindsay.
Nick did a double take, and asked Brooke to repeat what she just said.
My mom said the name Lindsay, said Brooke. Does that name mean anything to you, asked Brooke?
Yes, yes it does, stated Nick.
Can we go somewhere and talk for a minute, asked Nick.
Yeah, but what's the matter, asked a puzzled Brooke?
I'll explain...let's go find a more private spot, said Nick.

Eric couldn't find anyone. Brooke and Bridget and Storm ...none of them were around. Eric thought it odd, but went into Beth's room thinking they were in there.
He looked down at Beth. He was kind of glad that no one was here. He wanted to talk to her, without anyone hearing.
I hear that you are coming around Beth, said Eric. That's good sweetheart. You are doing better and you are going to be out of this hospital bed before you know it. Eric squeezed Beth's hand and he noticed her eyes started to flutter.
He saw that Beth was trying to speak.
What is it Beth, asked Eric? He moved up close to her and put his ear close to her mouth.
Li...lind....Lindsay, moaned Beth.
Eric shot up and didn't know what to do.
He was happy that Beth was becoming aware, but he couldn't believe that she would say Lindsay's name.
Eric was in shock and started to panic.
What if someone else hears this, Eric asked himself?
Eric left the hospital in a hurry. He had to go and talk to Lindsay. If someone else finds out about her before he can explain, it would not be good.

Poor Beth and poor Lindsey, she just found her mother and another car accident. I think you portrayed very well Lindsey's emotions and concerns, I had to wipe a tear or two while reading about Beth's ordeal. Still can't wait for Steph's reaction
