At Brooke's mansion.
Brooke enters her old home and looks around, slowly breathing out a huge sigh. She walks to an entry table to sit down her purse and keys and sees the corner of an envelope jutting out of the drawer. She opens it and pulls out an old photo envelope. The photos inside are of a picnic with Nick and Hope. She looks through the photos and smiles at some of them and thinks back to some of her memories with Nick. First the thoughts are of Nick and Hope and herself. Then she goes back to the island where Nick tells her that she is is sea.
She snaps out of the daydream and shoves the photos back in the drawer.
B (to herself): I have to stop doing this. I know everything with Ridge will be okay. (She doesn't look too sure.)
We hear a noise on the stairs and Rick calls out to his mother.
R: I thought I heard something.
B (surprised): When did you get back?
R: I talked to Dad yesterday and he told me about Taylor coming back, and how Stephanie was treating you these days. I thought you might need someone on your side.
B: Oh honey, that's so sweet, but you really didn't need to come back. Everything will be fine in a few days.
R: (Walks up and gives his mom a hug.) I wanted to be here mom.
B: When did you get in.
R: Actually just a little while ago. I was just unpacking when I heard you come in. It's so quiet in this house without you and Hope.
B: Yes. This house used to be full of life.
R: Maybe that's part of the reason I went to Paris. After you moved in with Ridge this place just didn't feel like home any longer.
B: (Rubs her arms as if she's chilling) It does feel big and empty. But there's also a pleasantness here. So many happy memories.
R: It feels a little strange too. Like the life is slowly fading out of this house.
B: Brooke's smiles faintly. I've been feeling that way myself lately.
R: I think you give this place life, and in turn it gives you strength.
B (Puzzled): Strength?
R: Mom, I know you don't want to hear this, but somehow I get the feeling that Taylor's coming back is the best thing that ever happened to you.
Brooke looks shocked. What do you mean? How could having our families in turmoil be "good" for anybody?
R: Well for one thing, it gives you a choice. Have you really been happy with Ridge?
B: Of course I have! Why would you even think otherwise.
R: It's not a question for me mom. It's a question only you can answer for yourself.
B: Being married to Ridge and having RJ is all I ever wanted.
(Rick looks a little hurt)
B: Oh honey, I didn't mean it quite like that.
R: I know mom. It's just that I've watched you be hurt and disappointed by Ridge so many times in the past. I don't want to see it happen all over again. You are too special of a person to have to put yourself through this.
B: (Brooke turns) Oh so you think Ridge will choose Taylor too, is that it?
R: No not at all. In fact if he does choose you then you would know for certain that it is truly you that he loves.
B: So what exactly are you saying?
R: That it shouldn't be only his choice. It should be yours as well. Mom you need to distance yourself from the situation and move back in here.
B (pensive) I don't know, Hope and RJ's home is at Ridge's.
R: Mom (turns his mother to face him and looks directly at her), Hope and RJ's home is with you. If Ridge wants to be a part of this family, he's going to have to come to you. Then you should be able to decide if you want him back.
Scene fades with Brooke looking like she's considering this.
